Diabetics at Whataburger

Diabetics need to be a bit cautious while dining at Whataburger. Almost every burger is rich in sodium content and it is highly recommended to keep your burger cravings in control while dining at Whataburger. However, you can always satisfy your cravings for a burger by choosing Whataburger Jr. or other non-burger items from the menu.

Foods to Avoid at Whataburger for Diabetics:

A diabetic should resist from ordering any extra meat-based burger such as Double Meat Whataburger or Triple Meat Whataburger to limit the sodium intake and calories. Most burgers except the Whataburger Jr. are high in sodium and hence should be avoided.

If you are a diabetic, you should also avoid Honey BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwich and Whataburger Patty Melt at Whataburger. Chicken Fajita Taco is also off-limits for diabetics. Came here with my friend and world traveler, who loves Spanish tapas and was super excited that a new authentic place opened. We sat down in the front bar area, there was a larger section in the back but we got to sit next to the window and people watch. The hostess was especially nice, she took time to explain the wines and tapa selections to us. Luckily it was still happy hour (it actually runs from 5pm to close) and we ordered a couple of food items. For happy hour, select tapas are $5 each. The olives were especially memorable, besides being full of flavor and hearty, that briny vinegary after taste which I've always associated with olives just isn't there. I've never had olives so good. The sangria was also really tasty and light, I had the citrus cherry and it wasn't too sweet. When I went they were still going through their soft opening, so the menu may change a little. This little taste though definitely made me want to go back and try their food. They described the way they prepared their meats, which is very authentic apparently. Definitely want to come back for their paella, which has to be good and hope it doesn't disappoint!

My favorite restaurant right now! Such great food, drinks and atmosphere! The servers are friendly and very helpful. Great quality of food, and flavors are superb. Came here twice: during restaurant week and for my anniversary with the hubby. Both experiences were wonderful! I definitely recommend to all who are shopping in the area and all tourists!

Impeccable service. Very friendly. Interesting decor. Large wine menu. Like Spanish food or not, order the paprika shrimp. You won't be disappointed.

How do I love thee, let me count the ways... 1) PORK BELLY 2) Octopus carpaccio 3) Chicken and chorizo paella 4) BREAD PUDDING 5) Spanish wine 6) Repeat as long as you're stomach will accept food *Honorable mention: croquettes All the times I've had their food (5-6), they've been good to amazing. I had a mind blowing experience the last time I went. It varies so much it seems to be dependent on whose shift it is. If this place was super consistent, they'd be my new go to

I came here on a slower Sunday night with my sister. We tried the cauliflower fritters, croquettes, mussels, spicy potato skins, bread pudding, mini banana split, and a few sangrias. The service was super slow which made the food cool by the time it came out. I had expected a little more after the other reviews.

Annnnd this is my favorite restaurant in Santa Monica. I've been here twice in 2 weeks, didn't even realize it's still their soft opening. It's advertised as a Spanish paella and tapas bar with a wide selection of unique sangrias. They are all delicious, from grapefruit and honey to burgundy and arugula. I experienced them extensively. The decor looks like modern bull-fighter with a bit of cowboy. A lot of wood and faded yellows, reds and oranges. Stocky wooden tables and comfortably low chairs make for a relaxed evening with those glasses of sangria in hand. The food ranges from standard to a few great hits. Nothing was bad, and I was impressed by how all the dishes had a great emphasis on flavor, whether it appealed to me or not. Mussels are heavy on cheese which I'm not used to, but the broth is delicious. Fried pig ears are crunchy, porky and come with a harissa aioli and chimmichurri dipping sauce. Both I would order again. The seafood paella is solid as far as paella's go, and generously portioned but I've got my eye on that squid ink pasta next time around. The croquettes were okay, chorizo and mashed potatoes but for the cost and portion size I wouldn't reorder. Same goes for the gambas al ajillo - one of my favorite Spanish dishes. It's done differently here, with a heavy, smoky chorizo flavor and a buttery sauce that while interesting, wasn't the hit of garlic and parsley I wanted. It's not bad...just not my type. Finally, my favorite dish are the boquerones. Fried smelt with a harissa aioli it's absolutely delicious. I will get this every time I come. Prices are decent, happy hour is better and service is fantastic. Last time I was here Bernadette helped us out and was amazing. Next time I'm going to cab it and work my way through that wine list.

I love the atmosphere and the happy hour specials. The staff are all friendly and it's really wonderful service. The sangria, although more like a wine spritzer than traditional sangria, is really good!

Sunday night was a perfect night to enjoy this place without the crowds. Conveniently located to the popular 3rd street shopping area, we took a pass on shopping after dinner. The service was great. The tapas delicious and the sangrias a unique experience. The majool dates I highly recommend. The smelt....yeah! Uniquely flavored food freshly made with a wide range of variety. Give it a try.

Long hours for happy hour (until close), especially for a Saturday evening. They offer a selection of 5 appetizers, sangria, and a Lager and house wine for $5 on the HH menu. The prices are pretty good, but the quality of the food just isn't up to par with neighboring happy hours. Most of the food is greasy and heavy, as 4 of the appetizers are fried. The sangria is fruity but also so sweet I thought it might be fruit juice. I wouldn't order any items on the HH menu again - but am open to coming back to try the rest of their menu, as it seems those reviews are pretty good.

Real Spanish food comes to Santa Monica. First, the building is beautiful. We entered through the side and did not see the huge bar area. After discussing the space with our server, I toured the restaurant and am really impressed with the copper bar and wine barrel "look". We went tapas, though the paella entree seemed very tempting. (Next trip). There's a gazpacho special which is excellent. The tuna crudo and braised baby octopus were also excellent. Great service and Creative lite fare made from Santa Monica Market fresh produce was the theme. They are in process of getting their full liquor license. While they do, they come up with a lot of creative ways to serve Sangria!

I'll be honest, I haven't written a review in a while, and almost every review I've ever written has been positive. That's how strongly my husband, my friend and I felt about this place - I had to write this review. We are Santa Monica locals. That being said, I understand how this place is mostly a tourist spot, with a great location downtown Santa Monica. The atmosphere and ambiance is great and cozy and the service was friendly. This review is specifically for the food, which was terrible, and the prices which were outrageous, even for Santa Monica. We ordered the paella, the paprika shrimp and a market salad. The paella, which was over $20 for a very small portion, was burnt! Rice was not cooked and was very hard. Two bad pieces of sausage and overcooked chicken. Extremely disappointing. If you want great paella, go to Primitivo on Abbot Kinney in Venice! The portion is more than double the size for that price (perhaps even less) and it is excellent! To finish my review, the paprika shrimp were also very sub par and the "market salad" was literally a $10 pile of lettuce. Honestly, don't waste your time. If you're wanting a great meal in Santa Monica go to Mercado for excellent contemporary Mexican, Water Grill for great (pricey) seafood or for something fun and inexpensive, go to Cha Cha Chicken. Be warned!

My fiance and I came here the day before Valentines. Walking in, the restaurant has a nice, relaxed atmosphere. I started off with the Honey Grapefruit Sangria and my fiance had the Beer Sangria. Nothing to rave about. We started with tapas: paprika shrimp, croquettes, and spicy potato skins. We loved the paprika shrimp! Next we each got a plate. I got the Paella Valenciana and my fiance got the Flank steak. The paella was so tasty and flavorful. Two people can easily share this too! After being ridiculously full, they brought out the dessert menu. Of course, we had to get the bread pudding. It was the highlight of my night. SOOO delicious and we finished the entire thing. Overall, I would totally come back...esp. for happy hour. Def some dishes are better than others, but the portion size is spot on.

I went to this place for the first time last night. I was skeptical as to if this place would good or not. It totally went above and beyond what I expected. Not only is it a nice environment with a great ambiance but they have some of the most comfortable chairs there. Not normal hard restaurant chairs. The service was incredible too I wish I could remember the servers name because he was one of the best servers I have had of late. Very kind and personable. The food was absolutely phenomenal. We started with the waygu beef which was amazing. Then we moved on to our entrees we split a Chile rubbed rib eye and chicken paella. Both were incredible. So tasty and the meats were tender. We also had a few of their sangrias which were incredible to. I will certainly be back to this place as everything was amazing and can only believe everything else is that good. Also the cool came out to see how our food was prepared which I really appreciate. Five stars all the way

Thanks to DineLA, I've discovered another fantastic restaurant in Santa Monica! Food breakdown: -Rabbit pate: Honestly, I'm no expert on pate so it's a bit difficult for me to speak about this dish. I did enjoy it as well as the date jelly served alongside. I probably wouldn't order this again, but that's because pate isn't really my thing. I just wanted to try something new. So if you're in a mood to be adventurous with your food, consider the pate. -Green lip mussels: This was probably my favorite dish of the night. I'd never seen mussels so big! And the broth was so delicious and great just being soaked in the accompanying bread. FYI, we asked for more bread upon the waitress' suggestion and ended up being charged extra for it. It wasn't a big deal but we would've appreciated knowing ahead of time that the extra bread wasn't complimentary. -Bone-in rib chop steak: On the DineLA menu, this dish was required to be split between two persons so this was both of our main dishes. The steak was cooked just as ordered and the mushroom sauce over it had a great flavor. I have to say though, the amount of sauce and broccolini paired with the steak was a bit disappointing, especially since it was expected to be split for two. -Taberna bread pudding: The pudding was another highlight of the meal. The combination of brittle, chocolate, and ice cream with the bread was SO good. Definitely a must try on the dessert menu. -Petit pot de creme: I didn't try this at all but my dining partner really liked this. It was clear how much she liked it when she started scraping the bottom of the dish with her spoon. Drinks: We each had a couple of rounds of the honey grapefruit sangria. Light and delicious! Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable. The owner (or manager?) Wes was also present and made a point to stop at every table to check on the service. I'll definitely return to Taberna again to try other items on the menu. Next time, I plan to check out their seafood paella and squid ink pasta.

To impress your date or your stomach, get the wagyu beef. It will not disappoint. You can thank me later. What made this 5 stars was that the manager (Wes) really went above and beyond on the service. As we were late to a show and did not have time to finish all that we ordered, he told us to come back afterwards and he'd hook us up. We ended up not taking him up on the offer...but what a fantastic human being!

It is easy to walk past this place a block over from 3rd Street Promenade. The all-day happy hour sign and the Kings-Blackhawks game on the TV lured me in. $4 wine, beer, and sangria, and $5 tapas are good deals, especially in Santa Monica. The white rioja is refreshing and pairs well with the fried artichokes and the fried smelt. Pretty nice for $14. The sangria is sweet and tart, cherry juice and lime. As noted by others, it tastes like fruit juice, but quite different from a more typical citrus heavy sangria. I wanted something sweet (the third period was underway). The bartender offered the bread pudding. Since whiskey is not in the Spanish flavor pallette, they skip this ingredient, which makes the custard, chocolate, pecans, and caramel come through very cleanly. It is big enough for 2 ( I ate half). The two tapas and the half dessert were plenty for this lone diner. The Kings won 4-2. The bartender, whose name escapes me, was very friendly. Service was attentive, even with the large crowd, some of whom drifted in to sip beverages while waiting for a Sugarfish table up the street. The dinner crowd was lively and seemed to be enjoying their paellas and steaks.

  • Scott Y.

Food is scrumptious, at least the slightly pricy seafood ones on the normal menu. Try the mussels and the dessert. Downside is for a tourist location like this one I really expected a menu with colors. ;-)

  • Kerry K.

I'll be blunt. The food here is not good. I went to dinner here with a friend and had the shrimp, the potato skins, beef carpaccio and seafood paella. The shrimp was meh. The potato skins were too fried and the seafood paella was really dry. The best thing we had was the carpaccio. It's so sad because I was hoping it was going to be a good meal. I won't be going back.

2nd time back to this place and once again, Wes took great care of my clients and I. Absolutely love this place. I'm glad that all my clients love the food, drinks, and Wes' service. He's so awesome! Definitely recommend for nightlife, chilled spot or date night.

I like this place a lot. The service is really great, very friendly staff. Cherry sangria is fantastic. A lot to recommend as a bar. But its always empty! Before I tried the food, I always thought this place was empty because the food was too authentically spanish to appeal to the masses. After I ate here, it's actually the opposite. The food is good, but not really great. About half of what we ordered was breaded and fried. I didn't really feel like I was eating spanish tapas, more like good bar food. Really calorie dense bar food. I think this place would do much, much better by going more autentico, and a little healthier. Nevertheless, its a great place, and one of the better happy hours in Santa Monica. The staff here is among the friendliest in Santa Monica, which is really refreshing.

Saturday night, I went to Taberna Arros y Vi with a big group to celebrate the birth of our dear Esther A. It was a great place for the occasion, and we all enjoyed a lovely Spanish dinner. The restaurant is right off the Promenade, so Promenade parking rules apply. It's a spacious but cozy place, with dim mood lighting, leather chairs, and brick walls. The bench seating is soft and saggy, which is strange in a brand-new restaurant. I spent the whole meal feeling very short. Service was great. We were a party of ten or so and the staff dealt with us adeptly. We shared pitchers of sangria (I think we got the citrus cherry with cherry juice, chardonnay, and lime) and had a wonderful time. The food was solid, with some standout dishes. My favorite of the tapas was the paprika shrimp. The shrimp were plump and juicy, tossed in a hot, flavorful garlic paprika sauce and served simply with some grilled bread. As for larger dishes, I loved the seafood paella, with bomba rice, prawns, crab, and mussels. I like paellas in theory but they must be difficult to execute correctly. I rarely have paella that isn't bland or gooey or defective in some other way. Taberna's rice was just right, and loaded with seafood to boot. Most of our meal consisted of tapas, and almost all of them were pretty tasty. I liked the croquettes and the spicy potato skins, two very different potato tapas that were both easy to share. The croquettes were fried balls of whipped mashed potato with chorizo and tomato sauce. They were crispy, well seasoned, and satisfying. The potato skins were like gourmet fries, tall and crunchy, served with harissa aioli and crema de queso for dipping. The yellowtail crudo was another great dish, with fresh pieces of sashimi served with olive cucumber relish, artichoke heart, and dill-infused oil. The wagyu beef carpaccio was nice too, with salted mascarpone cheese, white truffle oil, and salsa verde on top. Taberna's kitchen is a dash too liberal with that truffle oil, but not offensively so. The roasted organic mushrooms also came truffle oiled, with burrata cheese and crispy garlic. I wanted a little more firm bite from these mushrooms, but they were tasty enough and, well, burrata is burrata. The roasted cauliflower was an excellent vegetable dish, tender and beautifully seasoned. The only tapa I left alone was the shaved brussels sprout salad. It was fine, with pumpkin seeds and some kind of crumbly cheese, but I'm not partial to raw brussels sprouts. My husband is a picky eater, so he had his own little corner at the table. We shared a cheese and charcuterie board, which was good if not particularly impressive. There were three cheeses, some jamon serrano and bresaola, with marcona almonds, quince paste, pickled vegetables, and grilled bread to round out the platter. He ordered the charred market fish for his meal, a very good piece of salmon with broccolini, cauliflower, and a nice grain salad on the side. I ate all but the salmon. We were full by dessert, but there was a sticky apple pastry for the birthday girl, complete with a candle and a round of champagne. We passed this around and it was fair enough, if gummier than I like. We had a lot of fun at Taberna Arros y Vi. The space was ideal for a birthday dinner, and the food was notably good. I'm glad Esther picked it, and wouldn't mind eating that paella again. If you're looking for a nice restaurant in Santa Monica, Taberna is well worth checking out.

Came in here for a birthday dinner, and the food was really surprising. I'm often disappointed by the dining in downtown Santa Monica, but this was a nice change. We had the rack of lamb, cured olives, roast garlic, scallop ceviche, and a nice sweet/salty watermelon cocktail. The platings were GREAT, very creative presentation (scallops especially) and all the flavors were fantastic. The service, however, was really pretty slow. It wasn't bad, per se, just kinda flaky. The bartender was nice (we ate in the bar area) but she would sometimes say she'd be right back and then be gone for 5-10 minutes. Because of this, we only had one drink each. We just didn't want to wait again. The prices were about 20% higher than what was served as well, even for Santa Monica. Nice to try, but we probably won't be back.

Not impressed. We had the seafood paella and the rib eye. The consensus was that the dishes were passable, but just not great. Both had some odd flavor that didn't belong in the dish. I have had lots of great paella and was sorely disappointed with this meal.

So this is my review for dinner there. I was told to check it out because of the happy hour, and was a little surprised at the jump in pricing when I actually took my girlfriend there for a sit down meal. For the price, I want a little more. That said, had I just at at the bar, it probably would have gotten a 4. Our experience here was pretty good overall. It was a weekday and we had a reservation. The place was nearly empty though, so I can't speak to people's issues with overcrowding, wait times, or trouble with staff. Our waitress was, naturally, very attentive with so few tables occupied We loved the mussels. They were enormous, and it was a very hearty dish. Broth was delicious; they brought us extra bread to soak it up. They come with crumbles of blue cheese, which I thought was unique. You usually don't see cheese paired with seafood at all, but it was actually really good. It makes a kind of sense. There's a mild spice from the chorizo, a richness from the broth and mussels themselves, why not add a little pungent punch to it with a creamy blue cheese crumble? It was done sparingly and worked, in my opinion. If it gets heavy handed ever, it'll ruin the dish. We also really enjoyed the octopus carpaccio, and the wild mushrooms with burrata. The paprika shrimp were a little over cooked, and the croquetas, while cheesy and good, were not exceptional. I also tried a Tinta de Toro wine for the first time which I really enjoyed, so that gets a little added plus. The price is kind of high for dinner . . . it's certainly not a steal by any stretch of the imagination. And its probably not overpriced, but the thing is the happy hour is so well priced I can't imagine why I would ever go back for actual dinner and not sit in the bar. Happy hour runs from 5 to close. My advice is give this place a serious look for happy hour on weekday, when it's likely to be less crowded than some other reviewers have said it can be, and sit in the bar area.

I am not sure how this place gets 4 stars on Yelp - maybe just for drinks/happy hour? We came here for dinner one Friday night - Tall Mexican, myself and my dad who was visiting from out of town. First, we could not get a seat in the main restaurant (which was 75% empty) because of upcoming reservations. This is always a turn off to me - when there is an empty restaurant and you still have to wait or can't be seated. So, we turned to the bar. My first complaint is somewhat decorative, but also functional. They have high top tables placed on large wine barrels. Kind of cool to look at - but the table top is way too small for the size of the barrel and therefore you eat with your knees pressed up against the barrel - it just doesn't work. From there, none of the food was impressive. Maybe it was an off night, but not one dish would make me want to return there - and we had a lot. To drink, I had the Citrus Cherry sangria, which was fine - probably the best thing I put in my mouth the whole night. To eat we tried: - Paprika Shrimp - Cured Olives - Pickled Vegetables - Mussels - Roasted Garlic - Cheese & Charcuterie plate (this was the absolute worst - the meat was cut way too thick and was just not good - pretty much inedible) With Bar Pinxto right down the street, I don't see how this place will survive.

I wanted to love this restaurant. Well, I did love the decor - trendy, well done, amazing bar area. The food on the other hand was very, very disappointing. There was nothing notable about the food, other than the fact that it all just seemed to be off. The potato skins were a overly fried and I felt gross after just a few bites. The charcuterie was just eh, the mussels were way too big and game-y. The mushrooms were uninspired. The irony was that everything on the menu looked amazing and we had a difficult time deciding what to get. To sum, the restaurant is all about looks but falls short on the taste. Decor = 5 stars and Food = 2 stars ( a low 2).

Had higher hopes for this restaurant. I love paella, and although it was decent, nothing to write home about. We tried the seafood version and also the chicken and chorizo option. We also had the meatballs, arugula beets salad, and brussel sprouts for appetizers. All were good. Finished with the bread pudding and cheesecake. I love bread pudding. This version was good but not spectacular. I thought the honey cheesecake was very good. This was a crustless version, which was a bit unusual but tasty.

Whatever you do- try the mussels! We loved them and asked for more bread ($1charge for extra bread) to completely sop up all of the tasty broth it came in. We got ours without blue cheese. The mussels were large- we wondered how they got costco sized mussels? Ha! We also tried the fava bean toast which came with burrata which was good. Entrees were average- we had seafood paella and flank steak- nothing to really rave about there. But then we had dessert- loved the bread pudding! Our waitress was amazing- great suggestions and checked in with us often. Next time I think we'll just stick with a bunch of tapas and dessert- :)

Great restaurant with a great staff and management that knows how to treat customers - must try at Santa Monica beach!!!!

The food here keeps getting better and with the season change there are a few new dishes that are so good. The trout dish is one of the best fish dishes I have had eating out at any restaurant in Santa Monica, plus there are go to's that have been on the menu from the launch of the restaurant. There's one desert item that was created by the devil herself; the bread pudding - it will blow your mind. If anyone gives the bread pudding a bad review on yelp, trust me when I tell you to never trust that person's taste buds ever! They are clearly miserable and unhappy with their own lives. Seriously if you don't finish the bread pudding, the staff will give you a scowl as if you have offended their grandmother. The only thing that would put this restaurant on top is if they had a full bar. But they do have some tasty selections for a beer and wine bar.

Best part about this place are the tapas. Items beyond the tapas menu are mediocre at best. Personally was disappointed by the quality of food; over seasoned and uninspiring. However their service was outstanding, hence 3 stars.

The food was great and the wine was great also. The staff and waiter were very friendly knowledgable about the wines and the food. When we ordered our last round of food I asked the warier to surprise me with a mystery dish and he did great food great experience will be back again and again.

Wow!! What a great meal! Tapas are by far my favorite and this exceeded any tapas bar in la, which is refreshing!! I used to like prima TiVo which went way down hill a few years back. This food is better and reminded me of Spain!! Can't wait to come back!! Make sure to get the special of grilled calamari. It is amazing!!

After slurping some happy hour drinks at the Misfit, we were looking for a new place to try to absorb the booze (and probably have some more) and happened upon Taberna. Our server Ali was immediately very personable which played nicely into the rest of the evening where our service was fast and attentive. Initially, we were confused why we couldn't enjoy happy hour drinks at our table but the manager came over and offered to extend happy hour to us. Our food came out very quickly (maybe a little too quickly - if you want to linger) and it was tasty! We stuck to tapas. I think the table's favorites were the mussels, octopus carpaccio and cauliflower. We washed our food down with sangrias, which were also very flavorful and different from the usual fare. Lastly, I think in trying to rectify some initial annoyance about the happy hour drinks, the staff gifted us a bread pudding for dessert. It was delicious! And, it was very nice of them to hook us up. All in all: a very pleasant evening at a nice new (to us) spot. One thing I think they should work on is: the music (doesn't really match the ambience).

We came in to try this place because we had gotten a deal on livingsocial.com The food was great as well as the drinks. It was a small restaurant so when it got busy it got really noisy, some might call it intimate. Overall we enjoyed it and would try it again.

tapas |täps| plural noun small Spanish savory dishes, typically served with drinks at a bar My dining companion was heading west, bucking LA's Friday night traffic. So, after a glass of Happy Hour tabernala.com/menus/happ… priced vino blanco at the bar, a series of texts between us re. the ETA, the gracious hostess seated me, a party of one for the moment, at our reserved table. I would have been content with just the Cauliflower Fritters, Harrisa Aioli and another glass of wine but I knew my partner in dine would need sustenance, so I added Paprika Shrimp with Garlic, Grilled Bread to the order. Both arrived before my friend and I did my best not to consume all of it. Appreciated the "fritters" were not breaded and took in the spice, garlic of the shrimp. Like I said, with even a few bites, I could have stopped here. We ordered the Cheese & Charcuterie Plate and Pork Belly Potatas Bravas with Bacon Sautéed Kale to share. Of the two, the Cheese & Charcuterie Plate, although standard issue, outshone the Pork Belly. Perhaps we waited too long, talked too much, before digging into this dish but I found the pork unappealing, gelatinous, trumped by the kale and potatoes. We split the Crustless Honey Cheesecake, and it was adequate, nothing special, then again, I'm not really a dessert kinda gal. Coffee though was rich, robust. Now, I am not opposed to a return dine as it is possible there are other, better choices on the menu AND as long as I don't end up seated on their rather low, uncomfortable banquettes (2 Stars). Overall the food was A-OK (3 Stars). Where Taberna Arros Y Vi shines is in service, exemplary service start to finish (5 Stars). 3.3 Stars overall. Park in the #6 Second Street/Broadway Structure. P.S. Sorry no pics, low lighting, didn't want to disturb other patrons by using a flash.

First off, there is plenty of parking right next door. Nice relaxed environment. The staff is very nice, but could be a little more attentive. The food is top notch, and the beer sangrias were quite tasty. The prices were a little high for the quantity of food you get. The company I was with made this a five star experience, but the restaurant is somewhere in the 3.5-4 star range.

Wow! What an amazing experience for the palate! Every single item we had was flavorful, fresh, and delicious. A few of my absolute favorites are: Fave bean toast Scallop ceviche Octopus carpaccio (Beware!: the squid ink is not a date plate! It literally turns your mouth and tongue black!) For dessert: Bread pudding! As for the Sangrias.. Yum! Very light and refreshing. The grapefruit sangria was my favorite. The decor is warm and comfortable with lots of candles and dark colors. Last but not least... the service is really great! The manager Wes is charming and helpful in making selections. Enjoy.

Michael Cardenas hits it out of the park again! Loved it here. Happy hour all night every night and lots of fun items to choose from on the happy hour menu. Great atmosphere. Both the bar and restaurant areas offer a cool vibe. The fava bean toast and the cider braised chorizo are OUT OF THIS WORLD.

Went there for Dine LA. We called in advance to know whether the place is good for kids and they told us that it is great and they have kids there all the times. We arrive and guess what? Worst place for kids ever. The place is extremely dark and the music was SO LOUD. I am really ok with it, but please do not tell me the place is good for kids when it is so obviously not. Also, our waiter managed to make our child cry by screaming at him... terrific. In general, I appreciate their selection of dishes for Dine LA, but the food was at best ok. Mussels were decent, pork belly mediocre. The chocolate dessert was ok. Good quantities though. Service was poor, it was hard to get the waiter's attention and almost impossible to communicate because of the loud music. I am definitely not going back, but if you choose to go, disregard what they say and leave the kids home.

Great atmosphere and good service. I lived in Madrid for three months and they had the best croquettes I've tasted since I've been back in the states. Their sangria is amazing too :)

The paella, amazing! Still not as good as what I've had in Spain but better than any other American restaurant that I've tried. I was excited for the spicy potato skins but less so when I saw them. They had decent flavor but were really just skinny french fries. I'd skip those next time. The service was excellent and attentive. I'd definitely go back! Romantic ambience as well.

We were at the restaurant last Sunday, we'll over price for the food they serve, but this is no the problem, the ladies who take care of each table don't have no idea haw to take care of their clientele. To my test and I was fortunately to be around the world and many restaurant. I will not recommended to any one, they need a lot of improvement. Only two stars

Great ambiance but my friend and I found it a little weird when we said we didn't have a reservation (this was a Friday night around 8pm) and heard the hostess mutter under her breath, "gawd you gotta be kidding me!" (what???). We were seated immediately regardless. The happy hour was great - especially the drink specials and the chili flank steak and the shrimp. The croquettes were tasty too but the portion was much smaller in comparison to the other items on the menu. Either way, will probably be back (and maybe make a reservation next time???)

  • Ale M.

The food was incredible, the sangria unique (though we did have our favorites), and the service was great too. Our server cautioned us about heavier dishes since we were going for tapas all around. Overall had a great night with three fellow foodies.

  • fz k.

The sangria is refreshing. The happy happy hour tapas are not bad. The atmosphere is great and the build out feels like you are in a fancy bar in the wild west. The service is ok, no complaints since they are new. I don't mind spending money on good food and a good steak so I ordered the $42 steak. I should have known better, it is not a steak house and was probably a bad choice. The steak was not worthy of being sold at ihop and was at a Boa price. This steak should not be on the menu and everyone who had it should be offered an apology. A bad meal will ruin your night. We tried to make the best of it and try more tapas and drink more wine. I wanted to like this place because I'm local. It would also be nice if they served some high alcohol content beers since there is only beer and wine. I don't write bad reviews this place has potential hopefully they will work out the kinks.

Surprisingly, really great tapas place in Southern California. Having been to Spain and experienced the real deal, I'm always looking for anything that can come close, but have been disappointed time and again. Now, don't come here expecting authentic Spanish tapas. However, that's also what made Taberna Arros Y Vi so great, in my mind. The tapas they have all sound familiar on paper, but the execution and presentation is creative and different, carving out their own niche in your point of reference for tapas. The potato skins are a playful take on patatas braves and are thoroughly addicting. Similarly, the baked brandade will conjure up memories of salt cod croquettes, with an execution that is reminiscent of Italian food. And if you're a michelada fan, you would be crazy to not order their Harissa Mary--delicious! Overall, I found Taberna Arros Y Vi succeeds in my mind where other LA tapas restaurants fail. Rather than try too hard to be authentic, Taberna creates its own style which is equally enjoyable. Kudos to them. (I'd say the only knock on them was that, while the service was very good, the staff seemed to not have a great grasp on all the dishes or even know what some of the components were)

We enjoyed a family dinner. The Hostess, Waiter and other staff were all great. The food was delicious. We tried every Tappas option with the exception of the Pig Ears. We were not disappointed. The paella was also great. Great for a group.

This review is based on the roasted garlic appetizer and sangria only. The roasted garlic is served with sweet bread. The taste is totally off. That dish alone made my entire party decide to leave and go elsewhere for our dinner. It is that bad. The sangria was good though and the service is friendly. Warning though- they only have a wine and beer license. I will come back after they've been open for a bit longer to see if they work out some of the issues.

Went here for the first time with a group friends last night. We were craving Spanish tapas and this place is now our go to spot to do so. First off, the service was phenomenal. Dustin was a great a great waiter; he had excellent recs and was very attentive and personable. It was happy hour when we went and the happy hour tapas menu alone was great. We ordered quite a few items off of it, but the chili steak and miatake mushrooms were one of my favs. The blood sausage was good as well. Since there was about 7 of us, we opted for the family style seafood paella and it was delicious. I def recommend this place to whoever is craving tapas and great service. Keep up the good work guys! OH! And they have a Messi jersey on the wall and a FCB scarf on the menu outside of the restaurant...doesn't get any better than that. VISCA BARCA! Ha.

Coming off of a Europe trip, I thought I'd be done with tapas, but apparently not. Randomly stumbled upon this place after a disappointing night at the Glow exhibit. We were looking for drinks and eats, and found them in this cute little place. Apologize in advance, I don't remember what tapas I'd gotten. Who remembers that many dishes? I do remember the sardines. Those were crispy and not too salty. Thanks, Taberna, you do tapas well. The rest was on par with anything I could have gotten in Spain. Not a great selection of stouts, so I ordered a Monkfish IPA and enjoyed it. Good service; good ambience.

I have tried this place twice now, once for dinner and the other time for Happy hour. Unfortunately, I left a little disappointed both times. I will first start off by saying the service was great both times. If I was just reviewing the staff, they would get 5 stars. The different types of Sangria are delicious, however they don't seem to have very much alcohol in them at all, and as some others have posted, are more like juice. ( maybe it's some type of weird social experiment.) I feel like after 5 sangrias I should feel something! The regular food off the main menu is good, but not exceptional. I was very disappointed in the charcuterie plate, as the portions of meat and cheeses were more like small slivers. As for Happy Hour, the food was just ok. Each dish seemed to be lacking something. The cauliflower fritters were more like roasted pieces of cauliflower, and the shaved brussel sprout salad needed something besides a few fried capers. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and it is in a great location, however I am not enticed to go back. :(

I absolutely LOVE Taberna!! I came here for my graduation dinner with family and I am beyond satisfied. Everything at Taberna was top-notch. The food was delicious, the service was amazing and the atmosphere was perfect. The location was also prime, right on 2nd and Santa Monica by 3rd Street Promenade. Everything we ordered tasted so good and the portions are just right to be able to try a little of everything you want. My sister and I ordered drinks and both of ours tasted really good. We were so full by the end of our meal but opted to have dessert as well, and I am so glad we did. I highly recommend Taberna! It seems like a great place for a small celebration, date or just a nice dinner. They helped make my special day that much more special. I will definitely be coming back!

A great date night spot, happy hour spot, tapas spot. It's in the heart of downtown Santa Monica - but you might miss the unmarked door. The ambiance inside is dim, romantic, but casual. I love small plates and they have a variety of tapas dishes. Pig ears, meatballs, and carpaccio salad was noms! They have a good happy hour menu too - house red wine, steak + fried rice, fried artichokes - all very good! Overall, a nice spot for a casual or date night moment, or just a place to eat and drink up after a long day.

The food wasn't inedible, but it wasn't good. The space is nice. The price is way too high for what it is. I would never eat there again. It may be good for just drinks and bar food... but you're paying for the space, not the flavor.

Been here 2 times and enjoyed both visits. The first visit was on a weekday and the place was pretty empty. The service was good and the food was better. The second visit was on a weekend and it was slammed! So much so that our sever unnecessarily kept apologizing for her negligence of us. The food here is pretty good. The Crispy Fried Pig Ears and the Squid Ink Pasta are killer. Good spanish wines my the glass and bottle and nice rustic atmosphere.

Just had dinner here with my husband. He is always on a quest for the best paella. He ordered the seafood one. Although it was good, not enough seafood. We ordered 3 tapas; potato skins (very yummy) cauliflower (flavorful), roasted wild mushrooms (needed salt, a bit bland). I ordered the chicken entree, with green rice, it was just okay. Dessert, bread pudding, that was awesome. The most disappointing part was they ran out of Cava!! What Spaniard restaurant runs out of Cava?! Note to bartender, take inventory. The highlight of the whole experience! Our waiter Ali, he was very personable, made us feel very welcome!

My girlfriends and I were looking for a place to grab some drinks and catch up, and none of us had been here before, so we gave it a try. I'm so happy we did! We were there for drinks, and were happy to find that they offered a great happy hour menu until close! We loved the Cherry Lime Sangria (the pitchers were only $15!) and the white wine on the happy hour menu was also a favorite at only $4 a glass. The drinks were delicious and priced very well, our server and the General Manager were extremely friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for! We also tried a few appetizers which were great (we loved the Spicy Potato Skins - $6) and we shared the Chocolate/Caramel Bread Pudding ($9) for dessert which was fantastic. Their menu looked amazing so I can't wait to go again to try more of their food, and I will definitely be back for their happy hour!

Absolutely delicious authentic Spanish food. Had the pork belly with Spanish rice which was very tasty.also had the pollo paella which was delicious. I love how quiet and private this beautiful little building is. Great place to have a business meeting or some alone time with a loved one. Not sure why there is so few customers the 2 times I have been here.

I've never had Spanish Tapas before. My friend and I were looking for a lunch spot for good drinks and a good bite. We were walking and kind of stumbled on this joint. We had the seafood paella and sangria. Both were so delicious! The paella was filled with spicy goodness and the sangria was the perfect, cold drink to go with it. The service was great and very attentive. If you're tired of Sushi, I highly recommend this place if you want to try something different.

We LOVED this joint! My wife & I were set loose in SoMo for dinner and wanted to try something new. That's when we stumbled upon Taberna Arros y Vi. To begin, this staff is wonderful, very friendly and welcoming. Clearly they want this place to succeed. So we feasted on a wide selection of both their Happy-Hour priced tapas and the more elaborate regular-menu ones. Also we put down two pitchers of the lovely sangria. (Now THAT would take the edge off of a hot day!) After that, we shared a seafood paella that was the bomb. (Our daughter has a shellfish allergy so we grab for crabs and other hard-shelled critters WHENEVER we can!) So all in all, we loved the place and we'll certainly come back again soon. If I still worked in SaMo, this would be a super after-work watering hole as well.

I got this account just so I can write a review on yelp. First, try the squid ink pasta, mussels and roasted organic mushrooms!! Bomb!!! Secondly, Wes did an extremely awesome job at catering to me and my friends . I will definitely comeback again especially after experiencing such great service.

We were here for one of my friend's birthday. There were 8 of us and we all shared a variety of things. Paprika shrimp, croquettes, potato skin and artichoke was among my favorites. The sea food paella was too salty so we had to send it back. The manager came and apologized and sent us some appetizers to clean our palette, then we got new paellas that were not as salty and on top of that we got to try all the desserts on the menu. Wow! That is what I call good customer service. I will def go back.

I expected to really like it but it was solidly meh. The interior is beautiful, but the service is slooooow. The cocktails are also extremely slow, and way overpriced for their size and the fact that they're only made of beer or wine. The spicy potato skins and Butternut Squash were my favorite things, but awfully starchy.

  • Kristi H.

My boyfriend and I went last night. We had a reservation at 8:15 but didn't sit until close to 9... However, the staff was very friendly and welcoming. The food was great! We had the potato skins, beef shank and seafood stew. The only downsides are 1. The seating area is rather dark and seats are somewhat awkward and 2. They are still working out the kinks in the restaurant (ie they were out of several beers and wines) and are still waiting on a liquor license. But ill more than likely be back next month once they start serving liquor and get a good flow going.

Decided to grab a bite to eat with my son. The interior is warm and inviting and the host and server were very friendly. The menu was very easy to navigate. Wasn't to large and all the selections sounded tasty. We decided to try the crispy pigs ears and mussels with chorizo. Both Tapas we're delicious and I would eat them again. For the entree I ordered the seafood paella. It's also very good. Well seasoned and all the ingredients tasted flavorful and fresh. Overall I had a very pleasant experience here and would come back for the food and the service.

Spanish tapas done right... yeah! Haven't had a meal where I scraped the plate in a while... very happy... just a really good meal with super big muscles... the owner came around too so he's really trying... so come support a great restaurateur... the honey sangria was surprisingly good too...

For months, I was looking for a good Spanish Tapas restaurant on the westside (that also had vegetarian options). Finally, I found Taberna Arros Y Vi. Excellent veggie paella, good desserts and nice cocktails / wine selection. The servers and bar tenders are friendly and eating here makes you feel right "at home". Highly, highly recommended to those looking for a tapas fix.

So its Friday and the search to find a restaurant to eat at that night began before we went out for drinks. Remembered that this place had recently opened and would probably have a line, we called anyway and the lady told us that if we got there in the next 20 min, she had a table clearing out and she would seat us right away so we, naturally, made our way down as quickly as possible. Loved the ambiance/décor - it was very rustic modern and looked like a really cool place to hang out and I especially liked the couch-style seats at our table which made sitting/hanging out really comfortable. I was very disappointed in the food - as we made our way through the menu to figure out what we wanted, the top 2 items we wanted weren't available for us to try (Tuna Crudo, Octopus) which I found surprising for a restaurant that opened a few days before we went. We instead got: Fried Pig Ears - Good, but some pieces were really hard/lacking flavor Potato Skins/Chips - Really good, Prob should have gotten something diff as we got friend pig ears too Mussels - Probably my favorite thing we got, the lemony soup that the mussels came in was excellent with the bread Paella Valencia - This was a rabbit and chicken paella, pretty small for a shared paella dish and was OK for this place touting that it was a paella restaurant. Hot Pepper Sangria - This was OK too - it tasted exactly like the Japaleno Margaritas from La Sandia down the street with less of a kick Overall decent food, cool atmosphere - may come back to try the items on the menu that I actually wanted to try but not likely

"It's not how you start, it's how you finish". That about sums up my experience here. My wife and I had a 7pm reservation on Saturday evening. We we're promptly greeted and shown to our table. Then we sat, and sat, and sat some more. About 20mins later with no one coming to take drink orders or say hello we decided to leave. We headed towards 3rd street to see what else looked good and heard "folks please wait!" I turned to see the manager Wes running after us. He apologized for what happened and invited us to come back in and give them another chance. He also offered to buy our 1st round of drinks (an offer I couldn't refuse). We sat back down at our table and proceeded to have a great dinner. I work in customer service, so I know sometimes things go wrong and mistakes are made, but what's sets any business apart is how they treat the customer after the mistake is made. Wes and his crew went above and beyond to make things right and for that I will be returning again.

Good improvement. Came here a few weeks after it was open and didn't walk away with any memorable "wanna come back" impressions. Since then decided to go back recently and am pleasantly pleased with the changes. For one the wait staff seems more friendly and down to earth. Aside from an improvement to the staff, the food is really good too. The Happy Hour offerings aren't too exciting, but the tapas are pretty good. Tried the squid ink pasta. Good in that is is very inky.. just a bit salty. Spoke to the GM and he admitted they made some changes and tweaks to the menu. Will be coming back to enjoy the food and wine again.

We're regulars at the yoga studio across the street and have been eyeing this place for a while. Finally came in for date night a couple weeks ago and it was fantastic! Some highlights: -Friendly, unpretentious service -Great sangria - not watered down like at some places -Octopus carpaccio with fennel salad -Kobe beef carpaccio -Maple glazed butternut squash -Seafood paella - we ate every last bit, down to the burned rice at the bottom of the pan (the best part!) -Flan for dessert - rich, creamy, classic We left completely satisfied and happy. We'll definitely be back!

This place is sooo yummy and cute. I absolutely adore the ambiance. They've got Happy Hour all night every night - both red and white wines are delicious as well as the flank steak rice (I ate the rice, my friend ate the meat). Great place for cozy date and intimate conversation. Service is great. I will definitely be back- I want to try the Sangria, roasted garlic, and paella!!! Yum :-)

Great atmosphere. The food was ok, we loved the bread pudding. However what ruined out experience was the fact we were offered a dessert, which we refused and said we were just to full but they insisted. So we thought it was going to be on the house, but next thing you know it was charged on our bill.

AMAZING! the setting and ambiance is cool enough but the waitstaff is very attentive- Katrina was especially nice and helpful! the food was amazing! very reasonably priced- nice happy hour and we met the chef Verite who was a winner of chopped experience (if you guys watch the food network). absolute love for this place super friendly, great food and drink- a definite pearl in a saturated market.

Loved the charm of this restaurant. They legitly welcome you with a "BUENAS!" from when you first walk in the majestic wooden door. I came here with a friend during happy hour (which may or may not be every night?) We got a pitcher of cherry lime sangria $15, which was a bit medicine-y and sour for my taste, but finished off with a $4 glass of red wine, which was nice. We started with a few tapas. The croquettas, the steak with rice, fried artichokes, potato skins, and paprika shrimp. Then we ordered a paella with chicken and chorizo to split. We were more than stuffed after the entire meal! Croquettas: These were just OK for me. Texturally, it was perfect, but taste-wise, it wasn't the best I've had. We both agreed we liked it better without the sauce it came with. Steak with Rice: Rice was perfect: it had a little bite to it and wasn't mushy. It had good flavor and was a bit spicy. The steak was good also (think of this more as a beefsteak strip). Fried artichokes: These were probably our favorite of the tapas. It's not super heavy or greasy and was delicious with the dipping sauces they gave us. Potato skins: I think these are over-rated. Think undercooked potato chips (where it's a bit soggy, but had the shape and quantity as a bowl of potato chips). Papirka Shrimp: Cooked perfectly, but a bit spicy for my taste! Paella: I don't think I know what Paella is because every single restaurant I have been to that serves it tastes extremely different than the one before it. Not to say that they're bad, but different. On it's own, the portion of this paella is pretty big, and I'm glad I split it with another person. The chicken and chorizo were good, but just seemed placed in there. I couldn't get a strong taste of either of them in the rice dish. It was also a little spicy and salty for me, but was still pretty good. Service here was great; friendly and efficient! This would be a great date place or a good place to catch up with old friends.

Very nice interior. Loved the dark teal wall-color. They create a nice atmosphere with the dark finishes and dim lighting. Our waiter was hilarious - friendly but not pushy or fake, upbeat but not obnoxious, and knowledgeable but not snobby. We ordered 4 tapas dishes and enjoyed all of them- the brussell sprout salad, beet salad, chorizo with chick peas, and rice balls (the rice balls supposedly contain chorizo but I couldn't find any). The chocolate bread pudding was exceptional and I am not ever a bread pudding fan. This one, however, I'd eat again and again. The crown jewel of the evening was the Ferreira Porto Branco. Out-stand-ing!!! Order one if you're a scotch lover and order one if you're not!

Absolutely fabulous! Their Honey Grapefruit sangria was amazing and the Fish Stew was perfect. The service was impeccable. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Will definitely go back. Check out my review for more: liveanddiet.com/2013/10/…

My wife and I went back one month after our first visit to Arros y Vi. Need to say that I am from Barcelona and have in the past avoided Spanish or Catalonian restaurants in Los Angeles because they have not been up to my expectations. Lately this has changed and there are now in Los Angeles some good representations of my country's cuisine, Arros y Vi is one of them. My wife enjoyed the Red Petter sangria and pretty soon she was happily tipsy. Our first time I had the Majorcan Fish Stew, a "suquet" type dish and it was really good. This time I wanted to explore more in depth the tapas menu so we hit the Faba Bean Mousse, the Paprika Shrimp, and the Croquetas all of which were good and fun to eat. But the big surprise was the Mussels. They were fantastic, cooked in spicy butter, white wine and Spanish chorizo which left a broth we had to ask for spoons and extra bread to finish, one of the best things I have eaten this year and the reason my wife and I are making plans to go to Santa Monica again. Congratulations Arros y Vi.

Nice place to kick back and enjoy tapas. Super friendly servers. Foodwise: too little food on tapas orders and the bill can build up pretty quickly if you order a few of them. Paid about $700 for 10 people.

it's in the heart of Santa Monica...We are ready for some Tapas & Seafood Paella. This place serve the best shrimp and mussels that I ever have, so fresh and juicy, wagyu beef carpaccio so tender and pig ears simply delicious. The only thing is they only serve beer and wine so if you are a hard liquor lover you will be disappointed a little but time to have some sangria is not a bad choice too.

We came on Saturday with a reservation. The place got crowded after 7pm. We ordered the mussels, roasted organic mushrooms and seafood paella. The mussels were exquisite, this will the dish we will go for if we ever come back.

This place is SOOOO slowwwwww there were only two other tables and it still took them over 30 minutes to serve 3 dishes, come on. I was quite disappointed with their tapas selection but their main dishes are alright, I guess. Bottom line, won't come here again.

This place has tolerable cheap drinks and 24/7 happy hours so it is ok to grab a quick drink in SM. I came here few times in the past. I would not recommend their happy hour tapas menu though. I tried boquerones and croquettas 3 weeks ago and suffered a horrible food poisoning 6 hours later. My stomach was off for 4 days after that. Obviously food was not fresh that day.Would probably come back again but not for their food.

We stopped in here after a couple at our favorite happy hour spot, Copa. It was fairly new (to us anyway) and we wanted to check it out. We ended up ordering the Chili Flank Steak with Rice. My friend didn't like it that much and thought it tasted stale but I didn't mind it that much. I liked that they served the Spanish beer Estrella Damn here so that's definitely a plus. I'd give it another chance next time to try out some other dishes.

This review is only for happy hour--we didn't eat anything. It's a super cute place--the dining room has more ambiance than the bar, but all of it was good--and the happy hour prices are amazing. $4 drinks until 8pm--even on weekends. Can't beat that. The service was really good--friendly, non-intrusive, but on top if things. I think I just made a really poor drink choice. I was craving sangria, and despite the fact that our server seemed to be gently trying to talk me out of it (she described it as tart and sweet--it's cherry sangria) I could't resist. Bad move. They really need a new sangria recipe. I'd go back, but next time only for wine and maybe to eat. The food did smell delicious....

Wandering the streets the day after Thanksgiving, we found Taberna Arros Y Vi. We were greeted warmly as we walked in and seated on comfy couch chairs around a dimly lit table-- how romantic. Our server was very nice and warm. The manager (?) came to our table to check on how we were doing as well. The service here is great. However, the food was not the best. The only two dishes we all thought were tasty were the seafood paella and the mushrooms with burrata. The pork belly was pretty good too. The pig ears were just okay. They were interesting just because they were pig ears, but on a culinary level very lackluster. The charcuterie and cheese platter we ordered was also average. The brussel sprout salad was not appetizing. Usually, I am a big fan of any yellowtail dish. However, the yellowtail crudo was too oily and ruined it for me. I also found some hard inedible white thing as I was chewing a piece of yellowtail--gross. The other dishes were not very memorable. Perhaps I am being a bit harsh on the food, but usually, I am a pretty easy person to please in terms of food. I'd say come here to try the drinks and maybe a paella or the mushrooms but nothing else. The service was good and made me feel a little bad that the food wasn't up to par.

If you are looking for a place with a cool atmosphere, to have a few drinks while sharing some appetizers this is a nice place to go. The service was good, the wait staff was very friendly. We had Burgundy Sangria and some red wine by the glass which was very good. For tapas we tried the Paprika Shrimp, Brussel Sprout salad and some rice-ball type of a dish. They were all pretty good. For dinner we had the Seafood Paella, Paella Valenciana and Rack of Lamb. They were just ok, not bad but not memorable either. If I go back I would probably just stick with tapas. It will probably sound strange but I wish they were playing some Spanish music, it would complete the feel they were going for with the decor. It was just regular pop music they were playing and I remember questioning the choice specifically because it was a little loud :)

Love this place! It has an exquisite interior, the menu is robust, and I honestly can say the staff and manager (Wes I believe) are so attentive and sweet. It's a block from the ocean so location couldn't be anymore perfect. I will he coming back often (especially after a day of shopping on 3rd street).

I probably set my expectations a bit too high due to other stellar reviews, but having dined at amazing places around LA and SF area I can definitely say this one is just ok. Here is a breakdown of -2 stars: -1 star: food. Had three dishes, two out of which were below par. The seafood paella was average at best. The wild mushrooms were tasty, but I'm probably just not a fan of this particular recipe ...it was lacking a little bit of salt and perhaps lime or some other acidic base. Cauliflower was good. -0.5 star: seating. The fancy chairs that they have are pretty, but just uncomfortable. If you get a table for two, the table if fairly large so you end up sitting fairly far from the other person. -0.5 star: service. Nothing major, but it us a while to get our waters and the waiter wasn't very helpful choosing Spanish wines. Overall, a decent place, but far from 5 stars.

Seductive and unique atmosphere divided into a fun bar area and a dark, cozy lounge/restaurant area. Fantastic hosts and waitstaff, who were welcoming, humorous, and helpful. Went here for tapas and ordered the mussels, mushrooms, and paella, and unfortunately we were completely underwhelmed by all three. Not terrible, but mediocre base ingredients like meh mussels and mushrooms were clunkily spiced and not worth the price or the good reviews that led us here in the first place. The paella, which we were willing to wait for, showed up in about 10 minutes and tasted like it: rushed, boring, substandard. The drink list looked really good, with creative sangrias and a fair selection of by-the-glass wines, so I would definitely stop in for a drink in the future, just not dinner.

Taberna is just opening to the public this week, and I was fortunate enough to be invited to a sneak peek a day or so in advance. My personal opinion is that Yelp should probably hold off on letting people give star ratings for a place until it has had 30 days to get itself properly up and running. Nevertheless, my guest and I were impressed with everything we experienced at Taberna so far. While this is a spanish restaurant - there is something very La dolce Vita / Via Veneto about the vibe here. When they open up the outside for seating - even more so, I would imagine. One thing you need to try is the rabbit rillette - like a foie gras - bloody amazing as is the bread served with it. They didn't have the full menu ready when I was there so I didn't get a chance to taste the octopus which was always a favorite of mine at the Spanish club I used to frequent back in the old country. Honey grapefruit sangria is wildly good. Will update again when I have a chance to return to a full menu of option - but so far, so (very) good.

Went here for dinaLA and was thoroughly disappointed. The first 2 courses were fine but the main dish was very underwhelming. It was extremely sweet with the sweetness dominating the flavor of the. If you are going to go to dinela, try going elsewhere.

Ugh what a disappointment!! We enjoyed our meal here back in November ad were excited to be back here again. I know 6 months is a long time but boy did it change unfortunately for the worse... Did the management change? Chef change? The server asked everyone what brought you back to the restaurant? It's kind of a weird question... Is it fishing for compliments? If I said we just couldn't find anywhere better to eat tonight, what would he have said? Now my negative points starts: 1. Still no full liquor license even though the manager said they would really shortly before. 2. Our waiter said my drink was going to be strong and still tasted like juice. The sangrias are literally juice. 3. The shaved Brussels sprouts were an abomination. These things are not meant to be eaten raw like a salad and tasted horrendous. We sent it back. Please take this awful thing off the menu!! 4. Mussels got worse. The broth is so liquidy and flavorless now, like they just threw in some bits of chorizo as an after thought. It was much thicker and tastier the first time we came. The bread also changed. 5. The meats and cheese board was fine but for 20 something bucks, would have liked to see some more pickled veggies or jams. 6. The seafood paella and the Majorcan seafood stew were fine on their own. But having them side to side was a really really sad sight. They were literally the exact same dish, except one was cooked longer till it was dry on a pan and the other came out soupy in a bowl. The exact same probably pre made mixed seafood packets that was not the freshest. The exact same rice. Oh I think my stew had the exact same broth as the mussels earlier. After we sent back the Brussels sprouts, the waiter seems to be less enthusiastic with us as well. After exchanging for the mussels he asked "are you happy now?" Not in a nasty tone or anything but just again a really weird way to saying things. If this was my first time here I may have given maybe 3 stars. But having had a such better experience back then and now seeing both the food and service deteriorate... Sorry guys! Gotta step it up!

Damn it; I waited to long after dining at this restaurant to file my review. This means it will lack the enthusiasm it would have had if i wrote it the day after our meal. that said, I've been too busy to dig in and really wax satiated anyway. So, here is a brief rave; we went with friends and found ourselves in a perfect restaurant with a delightful staff and amazing food. How's that? Also, don't let the word "tapas" fool you; the portions we much more generous than it implies.

Went here on a Saturday and they had a great happy hour. Their cherry sangria was fantastic - nice and tart! Happy hour went until 11 I think, and they had good deals on small plates and basic drinks (the sangria, some wines and beers, etc). We ordered off of their regular menu too and the prices were reasonable. Good place to start your night in Santa Monica!

I was in Santa Monica this past weekend for a work training and my hotel just happened to be right around the corner from this gem of a restaurant. My two cousins and I were actually heading to another place but decided to give this restaurant a shot. Pleasant surprise. It was winding down from being crazy busy. We walked in without reservations but because of a party of 4 not showing up, our party of 3 was sat nearly immediately. Timing was in our favor! Automatically that can put any hungry person in a good mood. We all shared several tapas that were delicious. We all had the same favorite but a different close second. This is what we shared: Fava bean purée with burrata on top of crostinis- This one was a close second favorite of mine. The Fava bean purée/mash/spread was perfect. Has a lot of lemon to it and it couldn't have been better. I wish they sold it by the ounce so I could nosh on it at home. Paprika shrimp- I was talking too much and before I knew it the shrimp was all gone. The guys said it was really good. Clearly. This dish was recommended by the staff Pork belly pie with a cornmeal crust- Beautiful presentation and the flavors were layered and deep. I think it's a perfect meal for one if you want it to make it your entree. Last and the favorite: The mussels- These mussels were gigantic and meaty. They were about the length of a woman's thumb. We all loved the broth. Again, really deep flavors. I would recommend this dish to anyone that isn't allergic to shellfish. This one is a must to get if you're undecided! The whole staff was incredibly friendly. Above and beyond friendlier than just the surface small talk that is typical for the service industry. Wes, the general manager, came up, asked how things were and chatted for a little while with us. Pretty funny guy in a smart way. Very enjoyable to talk with him. Afterward he genuinely thanked us for being there. I could tell he really cares about the restaurant and the patrons who are visiting. Ali, our server, was eye candy. Very friendly and seems to be very upbeat. He was on top of it and we had a great dining experience with him. If you're coming in with a group of hot girls request him as your server. ;) Next time I'm there for work I'll make sure that I'll stop in for a bite. Thanks for making our dinner awesome!

Great place with nice atmosphere, the waitress Bernadette was nice and prompt in her service. I ordered the Chili Rubbed Grilled Rib Eye and my wife had the Paella Valenciana, both were great. We also had the mussels for an appetizer which was also delicious.

Thought we'd try a different Tapas spot in SM for a change of pace (Bar Pintxo usually is the go to spot...and now I know why!) Now, this restaurant fell flat both in FOH (front of House) and kitchen service. When we strolled in, it wasn't very busy, which we hoped would mean attentive service and maybe a chance to get to know the staff. That didn't happen. No one appeared to be interested in serving our party, nor in engaging in any real form of customer service. In terms of the food, very lack luster. Tapas: Croquettes, Ceviche, Crudo, Carpaccio. Seafood paella was nothing to write home about. Didn't bother to order more after that first round.

We were celebrating my promotion and I found a Living Social deal here, so we decided on an evening on Santa Monica. We both have Spanish ancestry, which is why I think we always go with tapas. And I really like sangria. Taberna Arros y Vi is tourist-trappy in the prices, but not in the quality and uniqueness. Very sexy ambiance with dark wood and dim candles; very date-worthy but the happy hour/bar area was poppin too. We ordered: Honey Grapefruit Sangria - Our waitress highly recommended it, but it was a little weak for me. Definitely sweet and refreshing, but I was hoping for a little more. Cherry Lime Sangria - Much better! Mushrooms with Burrata - My FAVORITE dish! I love anything with burrata, even if it's a spoon.... and these mushrooms were just bursting with flavor. $16 for mushrooms is a little ridiculous, but I was glad we ordered it. I needed that experience in my life. Paprika Shrimp - Boyfriend's favorite dish. A small plate, but excellent seasoning and huge, juicy shrimp. Brussels Sprouts - These were just eh. They were loose, chopped brussels sprout leaves, which I never like as much as the whole version. A little boring. Paella - This was delicious! We got the mixed paella with chicken. I honestly don't have much experience with paella, but we loved this one and cleaned the dish. Our waitress was friendly, kind, and sociable. Sad news..... she told us that this place is closing in 2 weeks. I'm not sure whether I'm writing this review too late, but we were disappointed and would have been back.

If you don't like to drink but like something sweet and tasty there was this drink here that I had which contained Sugar Cane SOJU (Korean Sake) and Passion Fruit, plus one more juice. It was tasty !!! I forgot the name of the drink 'tho, I think it started with the letter "A" and it was around $9.00.

I always leave Taberna satisfied. I used my LivingSocial deal this month and ordered lots of tapas that left me and my friend feeling happily full. We got: Cauliflower frittas - get Spicy potato skins - pass Croquette balls - get Mussels - must get Paprika shrimp - must get Bread pudding dessert - must get The food has loads of flavor and you really can't go wrong with any dish here. Also Bernadet(te) is the best server ever! She remembered me from 10 months ago when I came to celebrate graduation with Yelper Lara D. Her service is spot-on. :-)

I decided to try taberna because there was a livingsocial deal. We ordered the wagyu beef carpaccio, squid ink pasta, and the rack of lamb. The wagyu beef carpaccio was good overall, and the dish was very pretty, but there was way too much olive oil. The oil covered up most of the meat's flavor, which is a shame when higher quality beef is used. I could have also done without the cream cheese; we didn't bother eating it. The squid ink pasta has changed and doesn't look like most of the pictures on yelp. We didn't bother tacking a pictures because it didn't look great, but it basically looks like grey flat noodles in a buttery broth with shrimp and slices of calamari. I was a little disappointed that the squid ink pasta was different, but the dish did taste ok. The rack of lamb was really good, and they give you a lot of rice and beans. Everything was well seasoned and the dish was also nicely presented. My only complaint would be that I wish there was more meat! Service was also good; our waitress gave us a lot of attention, and I liked that we were seated on the quieter side of the restaurant. Although there are a few things that I would change about the dishes I ate, overall, everything was good, and I would come back to Taberna Arros y vi again. The livingsocial deal made the dinner a great bargain! As an added bonus, they didn't apply tax to the $60 that the deal was worth.

Came here for date night because we heard they had paella and amazing stuff. If you're going on a first date, this is definitely the place. Dark, romantic and sweet service. We got the paella and it was delicious. We actually took some home. The pig ears are delicious! You should definitely try it!

What a great place for tapas!! My friend and I were both in the mood for tapas and this place came up in our search. Everything was delicious -especially the beef carpaccio and beef balls. We also tried their paprika shrimp and beets salad which were also yummy..although the beets salad would have been better if it contained a little more beets. The wait staff was attentive and checked on us frequently each time. Their sangria selection is a must try as well. I'll be back here again to try their other small plates.

My barcelona buddy and I were meeting up so naturally, we chose a place with tapas. Ironically enough, we ended up getting only one tapa plate, the croquettas, and got two entrées instead. The croquettas come in 3s and are filled with rice and potatoes, I believe. There wasn't too much breading and it wasn't heavy like many croquettas end up being, so we easily finished that quickly, We also got the paella seafood, of course, which took about 25 minutes to make since it's made fresh. It was flavorful but the seafood sort of tasted cheap and frozen. Hard to explain but next time, I'd definitely go with the meatier option, the Valenciana paella. The portion was great and was easy to share. We also got the squid ink pasta since it's difficult to come across restaurants that make it. It was interesting how the pasta was made with macaroni, but it was still good nonetheless and they top it with cheese and lemony zest that really makes the flavor pop even more. Also can I just say-the waitresses are frkn hot. and nice. but hot. ;) You can park in any of the public parking garages to either side of it-90 minutes free and then cheap thereafter.

Overall a decent place. We decided to come here Bc Misfit told us it was 1.5 hr wait for the 6 of us. When we walked in Taberna had no wait and they had a booth for the 6 of us available. We decided to order some drinks and just share bunch of stuff. Their mixed drinks were just ok I thought. But i ended up getting a glass of their red wine (Tempranillo) and I loved it! Plus it was on their happy hour list so it was $4! Yay! Honestly the food was just ok (solid 3 across). We ordered their buratta and mushrooms, brussel sprouts, flank steak fried rice, seafood paella, seafood stew, and their cheese/meat platter (we chose 5 items). Everything was just ok and nothing really stood out to me. The service was good. No complaints there. I don't really see myself coming back here....

This location is very close to Santa Monica Place mall and is in walking distance from the mall itself. I recommend that you park in the mall structure, since street parking can be very difficult on a weekend. The location is very easy to find. For full resolution pictures and menu: tinyurl.com/kxguy3x The vibe here is very romantic and is very suitable for date night since you can go to the pier or walk around the mall afterwards. The restaurant had only a few diners on a Saturday night so I was worried that the food was not great. However, our waiter was very friendly and gave us solid recommendations. The menu was very extensive ranging from tapas to complete dishes. We opt for the burgundy sangria and the honey grapefruit sangria ($8 each). We were informed that they only had beer and wine. They did not have their license yet to serve hard liquor at the time of this review. For tapas, we chose the Caramelized Onion Meatballs (3 pieces for $8) and the dates ($9 for 3 pieces). The meatballs were very forgettable and I did not like it. However, the dates were so amazing. The flavor of sweetness and depth was all there. However, for the price of both, I do not think it was worth it. The presentation of the dates was very memorable and scatter with flower petals. We ordered the Seafood Paella which included prawns, crab, mussels, and calamari ($27). This took about 25 minutes to prepare. It was delicious and very well made. However, I thought there was not enough flavor/spicy to it. I have had paella before and there was definitely some flavors missing. The next dish was the best for the night. If I came back here, I will definitely get this dish: Chili Rubbed Grilled Rib Eye ($26). We got it medium done and all the flavors were there. The meat was melt in your mouth. It was very well prepared. Overall: 3.5/5 Deal Alert: Livingsocial is having a $35 for $60 deal to spend on food and drinks here.

We decided to try this place since we had a Living Social deal and it's almost expired... Today is President's Day Holiday (the deal is exclude on holidays)... we called in earlier and they said that they still honor the deal! They got our reservation right then. We got a wonderful table, right in front of the big window. Very comfortable sofas chair. The service is very good. It's our first try of tapas. Everything we ordered was delicious. We shared 4 tapas and Rib-eye steak. Very romantic, stylish and warm atmosphere.

They have a happy hour in the bar area that runs all day! If you like sangria or wine, it's a great deal at $5 a glass or $15 for a pitcher of sangria. They also have $5 tapas on the menu as well to snack on while you're drinking. The notable ones I like are the steak & fried rice and the fried smelt fish. So good. Keep in mind that they're tapas sized portions so if you're looking for something a little more filling, then expect to order...the entire happy hour menu to get full. Hahah. The bar area is small, so come with one friend or date. I've also dined here for dinner, everything came out delicious especially the mussels which everyone else seems to be raving about as well. However, the dinner menu is a little pricey so I usually prefer to just come here for drinks and tapas. It has a really unique Spanish tavern feel to it. If you sit in the bar area, your table is a converted wine barrel and the chairs have this cool old stretched leather backing. So definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!

Absolutely gorgeous, sexy, and romantic. Unfortunately, I came dateless and with a group party of 5 (long sigh from my peeps). Still nice. Dark, orange lights, copper bar, and animal horns. Well, the last I could do without, but the dim lighting so works. Great start to the evening's festivities was Estrella Damm beer. Damn! Very good. Wine and beer only, so be prepared for no tequila, vodka, or other cocktails. 1. Seafood Paella ($27, 4.0 stars) -- 4 absolutely HUGE mussels, 4 medium shrimp, tons of small pieces of calamari, seasoned small bits of rice. Tasty, but I've had way better. 2. Chocolate Bread Pudding ($9, 4.0 stars) -- white bread (not choc bread), with warm oozzles of chocolate syrup. A bit boring, actually. Add bananas, choc chips, raisens, something - for texture. Wonderful service from the bartender and server. That's what I'll mostly remember. The food is good, not great. Bring a date.

BF was in town and we wanted something a little bit fancier than what we normally get. After a quick search on groupon we decided on Taberna Arros Y Vi. There was a garage that was free for 2 hours right across the street (a very important factor for me!) We got: Cauliflower Fritters- the most disappointing dish. I've had some amazing cauliflower before so I was super excited to see this on the menu. It was just oily and the sauce wasn't anything special. Paprika Shrimp- the shrimp was perfectly cooked and tender but the flavor was just average Mussels- AMAZING! My BF who doesn't even like seafood loved this as well. The sauce was just so good. I wish that they weren't so stingy with bread (seriously, they know the sauce is amazing!) and the chorizo and blue cheese went perfectly. Seafood Paella- truthfully, I don't have much experience with paella so I don't know how authentic this was. That being said, my BF and I enjoyed every bite of this dish and scraped the pan clean! Service was excellent and our waiter didn't even bat an eye when I asked to box up one single mussel (the sauce was just so good that I wanted to eat it with some homemade bread I had at home). The happy hour menu looks good and the groupon price was great!

There seems to be a lot missing at this restaurant. Here is my brutally honest review: Let's first focus on what's going well. The servers/service is impeccable. Each employee checked in, made suggestions, knew the menu and truly went out of their way to satisfy. Also the ambiance is not half bad.. As long as you're willing to slouch in your chair when eating dinner.. Which I don't appreciate much, but I'll let that pass because the decor is pretty awesome. Let's now focus on why I give this restaurant 2 stars. The two positives are listed above.. Cons: The menu is all too.. BLAND. Nothing pops out when reviewing tapas or dinner options. For this reason we tried to order the most intricate of options. The chili shrimp- tapa- 2 stars because the shrimp actually existed, except minus three stars for flavor and lack of proper cooking technique: half the shrimp were almost raw. The ribeye steak- dinner entree- 2 stars because the steak was far too fatty, and had little to any flavor except for a giant morsel of butter. Also, the squash was under cooked! **I had a few bites that tasted okay until I bit into a giant raw piece..** I mean in all fairness the food looked beautiful (5 stars for presentation), but WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON IN THE KITCHEN? Sorry Yelpers, but I do not plan on returning unless it's for a drink in their beautiful bar.. Here's to better eats and more importantly food cooked properly! xxx

my boyfriend and i wanted to have tapas tonight and decided to choose this place because they had a lot options on the happy hour menu for only $5! i was stuck between a beer or a sangria and the server pointed out that they had a beer sangria! it was pretty good but more on the sweet side. we ordered: fried artichokes: (5/5) this is a must! each artichoke was perfectly battered and the sauce complimented the artichokes. chili flank steak with pan fried rice: (4/5) it was good enough to share for two and tasty too ! spicy potato skins: (4/5) the skins were so good! i liked the undercooked skins and the best part are the fried peppers that are mixed in. a great appetizer to share! paprika shrimp: (4/5) i liked that the shrimp was a little undercooked and the spices and sauces croquetas dias: (3/5) lightly battered potato and chorizo balls were just okay. nothing really special about it. morcilla pinxto: (2/5) blood sausages with crispy bread was all about presentation but lacking on taste. we over ordered because it was a good deal. i would only recommend this place during happy hour but not in a hurry to come back. keep in mind that only the special prices only applies in the bar section.

I don't get the name of this place but I don't need to. I get what they serve. Food. Tapas food, actually. Or maybe tapas style tapas. Or maybe neutral tapas. Or maybe just food. Or maybe tapas again. Vi looks like the lazy way of writing the Roman numeral six, but you can't really decide to write in Roman numerals and then decide to be lazy. It already is harder. Why did you decide to go that route in the first place? Just back out and go regular-numbers style. Sangria here was very good. Paella was bomb. The mussels in the paella were gigantic and that made them not taste good. Other than that, solid place. I'd come back.

Stopped in after drinking at Kings Head. It must have been their happy hour sign that drew the boyfriend and I in.. We got the citrus cherry sangria and a couple of different tapas to start: croquettas, tiny smelt boquerones and wagyu beef carpaccio (not on their happy hour menu). All of them were amazing! I was actually blown away by the smelt and couldn't stop chomping! Their citrus cherry sangria also tasted really good - it kind of reminded me of those spiked fruit punches I used to drink back in the day. Croquettas reminded me of my Spanish best friend's grandmothers cooking.. Ah Bita, I miss you! Upon realizing that our glasses were still filled but our plates were empty, we went on and ordered the chili flank steak with pan fried rice, morcilla pinxto and another thing of the smelt boquerones. Morcilla pinxto aka Blood sausage was surprisingly good. I have never had blood sausage til then so, I was happy to have discovered how it tasted. I wasn't too impressed by the steak but, could care less. Everything else had been outstanding so far. Food, drinks and even the service was stellar! If you're in the area, you have to check out taverna, it's very underrated but it's so good! It could also get a little pricey but, I'm telling you, it's definitely worth it. Parking building 6 is right beside it too!

Tried this place with some friends the other night. Overall, a decent place to eat. Service was great. Waitress was very friendly and we were seated promptly. The food was just okay. I recommend the meatballs. We also got the mushrooms and croquetta's for tapas. Mushrooms and croquetta's were good, but nothing amazing. Me and my friend split the meat paella. The paella was kind of bland (as other yelper's note) and sparse in meat. It's a bit expensive for the food quality and seems like it could be one of the many tourist traps in santa monica.

Holy mother of mussels!!! That broth is boldly flavored and crazy addictive so definitely ask for a heaping pile of bread to dip in the goodness. Also had the paella valenciana which was awesome--but pouring that mussel broth on top of the paella puts in on ANOTHER LEVEL. A definite winner in my book! EDIT: Tried visiting again last Friday (7/10/15) at 7:30PM and they were closed!! No note saying that they're closed... confused...!!!??

Nice small dishes and nice cool environment. Went there with a group of friends during a trip to CA. The place is cool. I would not say that the food will blow your mind but it will taste good! Perhaps, slightly overprices for the quantity and the quality that you get. I think around there are better options but this is not a bad one. I wish that the portions were slightly bigger and part of the food more flavorful. Service was good. No complaints about that.

The hubster is a good man. He not only adores me unconditionally, he also translates Spanish stuff at work. So natch, I had to thank him by taking him to eat Spanish tapas because, you know me, I love themes. We were pleasantly surprised by this joint, and the Spanish hubster absolutely gives it two thumbs up. It's a gorgeous wood and leather place with just the right amount of tables. My only beef were the weak drinks; tasty, don't get me wrong, but not much alcohol in them to warrant a good dinner buzz. Anyway, this place takes Spanish-themed dishes and gives them a lovely California twist. I love the pig ears which were served in strips like french fries with aioli and chimichurri dips. Talk about addictive! I'm all about texture and this did it for me tenfold. We also loved loved loved their version of octopus carpaccio which was more like a shaved octopus terrine with a tangy sauce and greens on top. And don't listen to them when they say the paella is for one person. We eat A LOT and that seafood paella was enough for our collective big belleh. In all, we ordered about 4 small plates and that paella, and it was puh-lenty. And like I said, because the cocktails were so weak, I insisted on going somewhere afterwards for more drankin'. Since we were near the Promenade, it was easy to find a mellow spot. We shall return with more Spanish friends because we know they'll dig it here too.

Overall: This is just a little footnote for my second visit. It's fairly consistent in every way...awesome place for a night out with friends. It's always around a 3.5 but the ambience bumps it up to a 4. Food: 4 Fava Bean Mousse: It was good but a slight let down after that great garlic mousse. I personally think the idea of a mousse works so much better with garlic because it's like an interesting take on garlic bread whereas this is just (essentially) hummus on bread. Also, it was slightly too salty. Grilled Asparagus: Still as good as last time. Crispy Pig Ears: Hands down the best thing we had there. It was crunchy with a subtle spiciness and perfectly seasoned when you added a little lemon. Service: 3.5 The waitress was really nice, but it took awhile to flag her (or anyone for that matter) down when we needed something. She also got one of our orders wrong, but she was more than happy to fix it when we notified her. Ambience: 4.5 It's still awesome for a night out. I just wish it was a smidge brighter, just at the tables so you can see what you're eating.

Great spot to grab a happy hour drink. We had the citrus cherry sangria to wash down our tapas. Now the drinks were great but the food was just average. Everything was greasy and nothing really stuck out. We nibbled on the red shishito peppers, cauliflower fritters, paprika shrimp, spicy potato skins, fried artichokes and morcilla pinxto. The peppers were nothing special but were nice bites. The fritters and shrimp were oily. The potato skins were literally crisped up oil. We had a difficult time trying to eat the artichoke and the winner for something different was the morcilla pinxto. We left full but with a little ache from the amount of oil used in all these dishes.

I came here with my 2 friends with a living social deal! $35 for $60 which is an awesome deal considering the prices here. My friends and I ordered the honey grapefruit sangria, croquettas, Paella Valenciana (bomba rice), Squid Ink Pasta, and the Chocolate/Caramel Bread Pudding. I have to say that my favorite were the sangria, croquettas, and the dessert. I was not all that amazed by the entree's, and the squid ink pasta is something you'll have to get used to as the plate is completely black, and just doesn't look as appetizing. However, the sangria is amazing, and the bread pudding was made fresh, and it was delicious! (note: for the bread pudding, my friends and I waited roughly 25 minutes, not sure if it took that long, or service was slow) Overall, the place had a great ambiance. Our server Ali was super sweet and comical! He always made sure to check up on us, which was greatly appreciated! :)

Came here for dinner for the second time last night. Both times were amazing, we had seafood paella and salmon last night, with the meatballs and mushrooms to start.. The mushrooms were delicious, with a great truffle flavor. The meatballs were seasoned really well, but were a little cold when they came out. The paella was warm and rich and flavorful, and the salmon was perfectly seasoned and the mashed potatoes were perfect. We enjoyed a glass of wine each. The restaurant has a warm feel, not too fancy, but great for a date or even a group dinner.

Finally tried this place since I had a friend visiting within walking distance- easy for her to find and I could scratch it off my list. I feel like most other tapas places I've tried have larger menus and are more reasonable price-wise. Regardless, the food was pretty tasty for the most part- although it came out somewhat backwards, as we were served the caramelized onion meatballs first and the brussel sprout salad last...?? We were told the croquettes con arroz had chorizo, but they didn't. Meatballs had no caramelized onion going on as mentioned in the menu. Cauliflower fritters were good, mushrooms with burrata chesse were good, brussel sprout salad was good. Staff was super friendly but kinda disappeared once all our food was served... Had to flag someone down for our bill. Might go back if I'm in the area... But so many other spots worth a try just in SM.

Tourist trap in Santa Monica. Had dinner Saturday night with 4 others. We ordered various starters and entrees.... all of which were pedestrian and overpriced for the quality. For example, two of us ordered the seafood paella-- sadly, didn't even come close to resembling paella. Bland in taste and sparse in seafood, and you can forget about even considering a hint of saffron flavor or a socarrat. Service was friendly, but the dinning room awkward. Steer clear.

Came here for a group dinner. The place was pretty empty. This restaurant is very easy to miss in the hustle and bustle of Santa Monica. However, worth a try! We ordered an array of tapas, but the highlights for me include the: 1. Honey Grapefruit Sangria: girly drink, but man, is it tasty! 2. Croquettas: yummy! 3. Fava bean toast: Pretty good, not amazing 4. Chorizo: worth the order 5. Carpaccio: delicious, light 6. Paprika shrimp: delicious, great flavor 7. Cauliflower with aioli: Surprisingly good, they're fried, which you've probably not had before 8. Crispy pig ear: unconventional; good attempt but definitely overfried, a little too hard 9. Shaved brussel sprout: not good...they said it was popular, but... For entrees: 1. Mussels: from NZ, these were huge! Very well done with a nice creamy sauce. One of my favorite dishes 2. Mushroom: Another great dish, different types of mushrooms, flavorful 3. Ribeye: Tender, juicy 4. Paella: Not my favorite; very salty; I personally wouldn't get this 5. Sea bass: Delicious fresh fish with scallops and clams on top; I just loved this dish. The only issue is it does come with the head and tail. Just a warning. :-) Desserts 1. Flan: Pretty good, although I like asian-made flan better (a more silky, rather than dull texture) 2. Bread pudding: Best dessert, paired perfectly with the ice cream 3. Cheesecake: Very interesting texture, but worth a try as the second best dessert after the bread pudding. It comes with I believe passionfruit. 4. Bocadillo: It's basically a PBJ sandwich that you dip in chocolate; I didn't like this dish 5. Pot de creme: A little too salty, also not my favorite For me, there were hits and misses. Good service. I had to be a fat pig and try all this for you, so take heed, my friends! :-)

3.5 stars - Came for the first time. More than anything I love the vibe, atmosphere, furniture, and lighting at this restaurant. I got a Groupon and decided to come here. I got the paella which the waitress said it was her favorite. The seafood paella was just okay. It's a really big serving, but I didn't think it was spectacular. It was just okay. I've never been to Spain or had legitimate paella, but if any dishes are cooked really well whether hard-core authentic or not the food would just be amazing. This was not the case. My boyfriend got the steak and said he liked it. We also got the mushrooms which were pretty good. I could see how people would rather come here for drinks. I am not sure I would come again. However I do love the very dim lighting and the cozy and intimate romantic atmosphere. So I would maybe do a dessert date.

So I just stopped in to this restaurant last night for a drink after dinner and realized that I had been here once before. I remembered that I had thought the food was good but not necessarily brilliant and the prices were considerably higher than what I thought should be charged for the fare. Tonight was just for a drink as I saw a sign that said "Happy Hour All Night!" Ambiance: I loved the Spanish interior, the huge wooden front door with its decorative patterns and iron work, the leather-look table tops and chairs and the particularly inviting dining area. It was a Monday night so that may have been the reason why but there were only a couple of other patrons in the restaurant. Service: The waitress approached us immediately and asked if we were interested in food or drinks only as the kitchen just had closed. It was thoughtful of her to check right away so we could have moved on if we were set on eating. We only wanted a drink, so no issues there. She brought us our drinks quickly and gave us our check in a timely fashion, but did not come back to collect the check and we had to go to the bar to pay her with no apology from her for that. Also, they had trouble breaking a $50.00 bill and had to go to 3 servers to get the 2 $20's. I don't know if they were closing down and that was the issue or what quite happened there. Drinks: We had the Sangria. It was sweet: red wine with cherry juice. I am used to sangrias being served with brandy or rum added to the mix and lots of fruit in them but this had none of that. My friend noted that the bar is wine and beer only, not a full bar. For me, this wouldn't be a problem for dinner, but I could see how others might not feel the same. I probably won't make an effort to come back, but I do think the atmosphere is very cool in the dining area and would come if others wanted to meet there.

I came here to visit my best friend who works at RAND down the street and we were looking for a fun dinner place to eat at. The tapas here are excellent and the service impeccable (I mean, our waiter came up to our table and said something along the lines of "your drink is empty. I'm Irish - I notice these things.") For my drink, I ordered a Spanish Berry which was delicious. We also shared the cauliflower fritters which were awesome, the roasted organic mushrooms (amazing!!)), and the spicy potato skins. Definitely a fun place to come and grab a drink with friends or go on a date. It's less crowded than the Misfit which I still have to check out at some point.

Maybe i'm not in to tapas, but I wasn't too big of a fan of this place. I tried a dish they had at a Plate by Plate event and was excited to come here afterwards. When I got to the restaurant, the dish they offered wasn't even on their menu. There was a big group of us so we were able to order almost every tapas on the menu and they weren't too impressed either. Although the bacon wrapped pork tendorloin which is one of their dinner plates was pretty good. But the serving size was little :P I would not come back.

Wednesday, AKA Hump day.. I decided to have an impromptu type of good day because every now and then you need spontaneity to break the norm! =) Yes, it's midweek so nothing too crazy.. it was a beautiful day outdoors so what better way to spend it than heading out to the beach to watch the waves crash and feel the cool breeze before dinner? We decided to go for tapas for dinner and selected Taberna Arros Y Vi because it was conveniently located near 3rd Street Promenade. LOCATION & DECOR I loved the interior.. from the decor and furniture selection to the candles along two walls there was definitely a lot of thought put into making the room feel nice & cozy! You can sit in the bar area, lounge in the comfy chairs near the window, or opt for one of the inner tables if you prefer to have more privacy. FOOD & DRINKS If you're looking for hard liquor, you may need to go somewhere else. This place serves sangria, libations, beer, and wines. The Honey Grapefruit Sangria was an interesting take on sangria.. you can definitely taste the honey which actually paired pretty well with the grapefruit. As for the food, we decided to forego ordering entrées and instead focused on the tapas portion of their menu. Our server, Katrina, was very informed and helpful in suggesting some of her favorite tapa dishes. She described the dishes in such detail that I'm certain she must be a foodie herself. We ordered the cauliflower fritters, spicy potato skins, roasted organic mushroom in truffle oil, caramelized onion meatballs, and croquettas. Food was great but I'll refrain from selecting a favorite dish because I have a feeling it's one of the dishes we didn't try. On my must-try list for my next visit are the mussels, paella, and pan-seared hake (which Katrina described as nice & flaky). The tapas were great but what really impressed me was the dessert. The BREAD PUDDING consisted of a deliciously warm cinnamon brioche bread with chocolate, caramel, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. A deliciously warm/cold duo party in your mouth =) You MUST definitely save room for the bread pudding! SERVICE The service was great. The staff was friendly and attentive without disturbing you too frequently during the meal. The supervisor came by towards the end of our meal and asked us about our dining experience. We learned that they have been opened for about 10 months and that the menu changes frequently since the chef incorporates fresh ingredients in season into her dishes. This restaurant is truly a hidden gem.

Love trying new restaurants - purchased a travelzoo special for the place - wanted to check it out for the location, ambiance and the tapas style eating. Definitely like the decor. Ordered the following: - cauliflower fritters - a little bit bland - nothing exciting - paprika shrimp - this was delicious because of the garlic flavor - paella with chorizo, chicken, fava been - this was ok - I would not mind next time trying the seafood paella instead. - rib-eye (chili rubbed) - this had good flavor - probably a better favorite for me - chocolate / carmel bread pudding - a nice end to dinner Overall, not bad for a 1st experience - I would do it again and try different items. Nice location - close to Santa Monica Pier and 3rd street promenade.

I go to a yoga studio across the street, so I have always been curious about this place. When I saw them on livingsocial, I thought I'd give it a shot. $35 for $60 to spend on food and drinks. Good enough deal to entice me to try it out. So, a couple of months after I bought the deal, hubs and I tried it out on a Saturday evening. Reservation on the website was super quick and easy. Our waiter was really friendly. Here is what we got: - Burgundy Sangria ($8): Pretty average, not bad, not good. I make better sangria at home. Kind of a rip off at the price they are charging. - Cheese/Charcuterie board ($17 for 3 kinds): We liked this. Got 2 cheeses and jamon serrano. They serve it with olives, pickles, bread slices and marcona almonds. Jamon was delicious, but the pieces were really small. If we had known that it was going to be so small, we would have gotten a double order of jamon. - Roasted beets salad ($11): Roasted red beets and butternut squash tossed with fresh arugula. Pretty good. - Cider braised chorizo ($12): This was an interesting dish. It was almost like a chorizo and chickpea stew. Overall it was good, the sauce had good flavors but we like our chorizo to be crispy on the outside. This had no crispiness to it, it was kind of mushy. But the sauce saved the dish. - Seafood Paella ($27): Again, good but not great. Had good flavor, but I did not like the texture. I like my paella to have crispy bottom, but this was rather soggy and the consistency was closer to risotto than real paella. Service was slow. I don't think it's the server's fault. It seemed like they had a hostess, a bartender and a waiter (one each) working the whole establishment. The waiter took our order, the bartender brought out all the dishes and cleared the empty ones, and the hostess came to fill our water... We wanted some extra bread to go with our cheese, but it took forever to get it. All in all, it was ok with the living social deal, but we won't be back. And I don't think they really care, because they probably have constant flow of tourists coming in all the time.

Love Love Love! I was here with some of my friends last week. Ali, our server was very very accommodating and very funny too. I ordered Seafood Paella. One of the best I have tasted with great service! My husband ordered Rib Eye Steak which was very tasty and cooked just right. FYI, they change their menu once in a while, I just dont know how often but some of the photos we have shown to order is not in their lists anymore. The dessert is delicioso!! :) Check some online sites for coupons! They do accept them too! Since their prices are a bit too expensive. But worth it! I definitely will come back!

After parking at one of the newer parking structure in SM, I passed by this place and seemed very cozy inside. Bar stools are not really comfortable but the dining area couches are very comfortable. A little dark interior makes a perfect romantic date night. I got here late at night so I haven't tried except for a few glasses of Pino noir for HH prices and 3 cheese platter. I loved the bean pickles that were served on the cheese platter. Forgot the name of a cocktail I ordered, some of its ingredients were Lavender and egg white. It tasted very unique. Lemony, lavender, white chocolatey flavor but not sweet as a chocolate. Texture was very smooth and creamy... Loved it. I would come back to try more stuff and have a romantic cozy night out. My server was friendly and attentive but hosts were whatever. But I love the ambient of this place!

I was craving paella and found this place. I was hoping it would be really super awesome, but while pretty good, it just wasn't great. I'd give it a solid 3.5 based on the stuff I tried. Happy hour sangria - cherry juice, white wine, lime. Not very complex and not very strong. I had three in pretty quick succession (~45 minutes) and felt nothing! Happy hour fried artichokes with pickled carrot & onion, chimichurri sauce. I tried it without sauce & veggies at first, but it's definitely best if you get everything into a bite. The artichokes are lightly battered and overall a nice little snack or starter. Wagyu beef carpaccio with salted mascarpone cheese, white truffle oil, salsa verde. OK, probably wouldn't get it again though. Seafood paella for one was okay. Mussels in particular tasted meh, shrimp and octopus were okay. The rice was on the mushy side and while some people like the crispy stuck to the pan thing, I'm not that big a fan. Not bad, just not great. Bread pudding. Also good-just-not-great. You've got the ingredients -- cinnamon brioche, caramel sauce, chocolate bits, crushed peanut brittle, vanilla ice cream -- so it's obviously not going to be bad. But, the bread wasn't custard-y enough, actually on the dry side, and though the sauce was still bubbling when they brought it out, the inside wasn't even really warm. Which was good for the ice cream not melting, but I would've liked it hotter anyway, maybe do the ice cream on the side if needed.

In love with this place!! Came here as part of the DineLA event and I can't wait to go back! Hope it is just as good as my first time. I started off with the Rabbit Pate...oh my goodness did I love this dish!! Light, flavorful and perfectly paired with their date jelly! Love it! My friend ordered the mussels and mushroom appetizer. I can't rave enough about the mussels! But the broth is indescribable! I totally took bowl to face and slurrped up that garlicky goodness! (I can be classy when I need to be. This was not one of those times!) LOL! For the main course, I ordered the Black Truffle Risotto with asparagus while everyone else ordered steaks. Everything was delicious!! My friend's porterhouse steak was too rare for her so I got the pink parts and it was perfect with the risotto! They should think of pairing a nice steak with the rissoto as a main dish. Loved those two together! Finally we wrapped up the evening with a nice pot de creme, decent flan and a delicious bread pudding!! Service was awesome! Ali our server had us laughing immediately and made out night extra enjoyable! The owner even came around to all the tables to chat with thoae dinning...I loved that! Such awesome service!! This is a lovely place to take a date or go celebrate a special occasion.

While strolling down the Santa Monica promenade area my friend and I stumbled across this tapa bar with cute sparkling red lights adorning the exterior. Looked like a nice and chill place to grab a bite so we decided to check it out. Interior is pretty small. Has a few tables by the window and some bar stools surrounding the bar in the middle of the restaurant. We sat at the table near the window so we could people watch. For our meal, our waiter recommended we try the paprika shrimp and the seafood paella. These are two of their most popular items on their menu. Absolutely delish!! I completely devoured every bite! Especially loved the paella. I rarely come across places that serve paella in LA so it was quite a treat. This tapa bar is located at the corner of Santa Monica Blvd and Second St. next to Simply Salads. Go check it out!

On the first night of my LA trip, we stumbled onto this little gem of a place while waiting for our table at another restaurant. What stopped us was the stand up sign in front that said, "Happy Hour, All Night, Every Night starting at 3pm! We were sold. This tavern is located right off of Santa Monica Blvd., on 2nd street. The beautiful wooden door and business sign suggests a pretty cool place inside. When you walk into this joint, you'll notice the walls are a warm orange, almost mocking a Southwestern adobe style wall. This bar/restaurant combo has a bunch of focal points. There's the dramatic antler art, lined with red xmas lights. Then there's the wine wall holder, brick wall in the dining area and the circular wall art adorned with what looked like oversized rosaries. The bar area is pretty tight but the bartenders are super efficient, so you won't wait long. For the all night happy hour, we got one of their house lagers call the Estrella Damm Lager, for only $4. It had a light taste, but still flavorful. Super delicious and refreshing. If you're in the area and want to get the party started at an affordable joint, come on by!

The ambience is great, but food is not that flavorful and overpriced for the portion. Especially the meatballs tasted like they were frozen packaged ones, and the paella was flavorless. It actually tasted like bad rap water. No taste of seafood stock. Also I was not very impressed with the service. Our waiter was too preoccupied to chit chat with other guests he forgot to attend to us in many ways. They also charge for water. I hate to leave a negative review, but in my opinion this restaurant was not really all that impressive. You get overpriced mediocre food with bad service

So you should go here if you're on a date because there's absolutely no other reason that would make sense. Our waiter was super nice, his name was Ali. Ordered just some tapas and drinks. Everything was great. Got the cauliflower, Brussel sprouts and the peppers. For drinks, just ordered the honey grapefruit sangria, which was amazing. They have no vegetarian entrées here, which was unfortunate.

There is a large parking garage next door so so don't worry about a long walk or having to circle the block looking for a street spot. I've dined here the past few years for DineLA it's it's always one of the highlights of restaurant week. Making a reservation is a good idea but the bar area is first come and you can get lucky if you have a small party. Plan on being here for a little while, the service is on the slower side but not in a bad way. There are too many great dishes to mention, long story short I've never had a bad thing here. Solid happy hour too. Limited $4 beer/wine/sangria and $5 tapas.

This is a fantastic little gem Tthe food, the staff, everyone here is fabulous! The seafood paella is by far, the best I have ever had! Their desserts... Perfection! All in all, a wonderful place for a date night!

Came here for dineLA and I must say I am very impressed. I am a tapas fan and this place didn't disappoint. Parking is EASY to find.. just park in Structure 6 which is pretty much next to the restaurant. You get 10% off the bill if you park there!! Anyway, atmosphere here intimate and dark. The waitress attending us was really nice!! I wish I remembered her name. We ordered: Mussels: REALLY GOOD. The broth it came with was soooo good. I would've licked the bowl clean if no one was around Rabbit Pate: Not the best dish here, but still pretty good if you like pate. Pretty rich so I recommend sharing with everyone you can Porterhouse Steak: We ordered it medium rare and came in perfect. Steak was huge, tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. Pork Belly: It was amazing!!! The pork belly literally melted in my mouth as soon as it touched my tongue. The veggies and potatoes that came with it were really good as well. I wish the portion was bigger :( Pot De Creme: Like chocolate mousse. The soft cookies were the best part of the dish. Bread Pudding: Must try! Simply amazing. Wow I will probably come back sometime to try the rest of the menu.

I give you a shoulder shrug. You were okay. You weren't my favorite player but I'll keep you on the bench for desperate moments. However, my bench runs deep. It may be a while before I put you back into rotation. Why aren't you first string? Well you sat us at the worst table in the restaurant, an isolated two-top in eye line of the swinging kitchen door and right beside a waiter access door. It was not romantic. i spent the whole night unable to look at my date sitting across from me because the fluorescent light emanating from the kitchen created a halo around his head that was both distracting and painful to the eye. I'm pretty sure he now thinks I'm a socially awkward puppy or that I thought he was ugly (he wasn't). It must have been because you were packed. Oh wait, you weren't. We were one of four tables. Why would you put us there? You get a star back because your goat cheese truffle mousse was gorgingly delicious and the mussels were good enough I resorted to mopping up the broth with the bread, but, your fava bean mousse was so bland as was your beef carpaccio. In fact, if I was blind tasting either, I couldn't have distinguish between the two and one is meat! Your other star was earned by your waiter Ali who recommended a delicious Tempranillo and was on top of his shit. And also because we had a whole bottle and some glasses of truly yummy port, and I'm always more generous when I indulge in a good red. Wink wink.

For anyone from Spain as myself or anyone who can distinguish authentic Spanish cuisine will agree with me when I say this place is far from Spanish. One thing is to get creative with Spanish cuisine as Jose Andrés has done in el bazaar at the sls hotel and another thing is to take creative license with no knowledge of the foundation of Spanish cuisine. One of Spain's traditional drinks, the sangria is made with cherry juice and is probably best served down the drain. The food is soaked in oil and not cooked in the most appealing way. The fried artichokes, a dish typically lightly friend so are crispy and delicious we're thoroughly deep fried and soggy. The only thing that grants this place a star is the decor. The place has some architectural sensitivity with a careful material palette and appropriate lighting. The only thing that lured me inside was a fc barcelona glowing signboard in the interior which to my surprise the servers had no idea of its meaning. Never going back

Enjoyed my visit, but this place is average to me. I will give you the pros & cons: Pros: Great atmosphere & vibe, staff is friendly nice and accommodating; the food is decent to good. I would give the taste a B. Cons: given that the food is about a B in taste & quality, the price is a bit too high. I feel that this place may be somewhat of a tourist trap, to be honest. I would return for the happy hour maybe... But I would not have dinner off the main menu again. Prices do not reflect the portions or quality. For example, we ordered the bean dip app that came with 4 pieces of bread. Not enough to finish the dip. We asked for more bread and were charged. Kind of petty esp considering that the app didn't come with enough bread to begin with. They have some major adjustments to make to their portions, &/or menu prices if they want to go from being average to great. But there is potential of they make those adjustments.

This place has great food, a great wine selection and attentive and friendly staff. The owner really knows his stuff, the food it's similar to Spanish tapas with a twist. A lil pricy but we'll worth the money.

I came to Taberna in high spirits, but left thinking I had visited a sort of heaven. The food was rich with spices and flavor, and the service was friendly, humorous, and great company. The decor was beautiful, though shortly there was a stench near the entrance, but I am not sure where it came from. It smelled like a rotten candle with an odd aroma of spices or something close to that, but it ceased as we settled into our seats. The restaurant is dimly lit, with a comforting, sort of peculiar feeling, and there is a bar towards the entrance. Furthermore, I came with friends, who were from Europe and found the food in California offensively rude. They often commented it lacked flavor, but they were quite picky and ill-mannered. In any way, they considered the food from Taberna the best so far, and we had visited dozens of restaurants. They loved the waiters, the crisp, mouthwatering appetizers and meals, and claimed they wanted to eat here all the time. Also, the woman had a small girl, who came in quite cranky and tear eyed because she wasn't feeling well. By the end of the meal, she was jumping up and down with joy! I recommend this restaurant greatly, and feel very sorry if it displeases anyone...

Been here a few times for tapas. Service has been average. We had a long wait between plates on the last visit. One time waiter was talking to other customers for a long time. Being Friendly's a great attribute for a waiter. Not so much if it isn't consistent. The meatballs were good. The mushrooms and buratta re very good. The paprika shrimp and the Wagyu beef were outstanding. At all costs stay away from the asparagus. There is no diced tuna to beOK found. More like shavings. Plus the asparagus is inedible. It is a great concept in a convenient location. But for the prices and the average at best service you can probably do better. I really hope that they do some revamping of the menu and retrain the help. They are close to being good, but I think they could be excellent if they looked at customer feedback and make the appropriate changes.

Came on a Saturday for lunch armed with a BBE certificate to check out Michael Cardenas' new Spanish tapas and paella place. It wasn't very busy, but I suspect that the lunch scene around the nearby area is pretty competitive particularly on the weekends... The L-shaped interior partitions the restaurant into two distinct areas: a lounge-y bar area that faces 2nd St. yelp.com/biz_photos/tabe… and a more intimate seating area towards the rear yelp.com/biz_photos/tabe… . At the time of this review, TAYV still had their liquor license application posted in the window. Corkage is $20... I suspect that the bar scene can get pretty lively in the evening, but we'll have to come back to tell... I actually enjoyed the distinct bell pepper and cilantro flavors of my wife's Red Pepper Sangria over my own the Burgundy Sangria, which was ok but muddled... yelp.com/biz_photos/tabe… The Spicy Potato Skins which were really more like chips were pretty fabulous, like they say, you cannot eat just one; it only got greasy towards the bottom of the bowl. I preferred the boldness of the harrisa aioli over the crema de queso which reminded me of more of yogurt... yelp.com/biz_photos/tabe… A favorite among patrons is the bowl of Mussels swiming in a delectably rich spicy butter broth, with blue cheese crumble, and chopped chorizo. The large PEI mussels were full of meat and juicy, full of great flavor. My only complaint is that I wish I had more toasted bread to soak up all of that rich brothy flavor. This is a dish that's a must order... yelp.com/biz_photos/tabe… I was looking forward to a good paella dish but was disappointed to find that it was probably the weakest link in the string of excellent dishes that we tried. The Seafood Paella found on the comida section of the menu comes with a couple of 26/30 shrimp, some split crab legs, and a pair of PEI mussels that gave up most of their own flavor to the rice. The heart of the dish though is the Spanish bomba arroz which was very flavorful, but also undercooked as there was no crispy soccarat layer on the bottom of the paella pan. I found the many tiny slices of lemon to be quite delightful and not as pithy and bitter as I initially expected... yelp.com/biz_photos/tabe… The Chili Flank Steak Salad was our obligatory attempt at a more balanced meal. The salsa verde spiced beef was delicious and was easily the star of this dish and the rice had the crusty, crunchy, stickiness that was missing in the paella. The mixed greens were nicely tossed but pedestrian and almost an after thought... yelp.com/biz_photos/tabe… Since we came at lunchtime, the prices are a little lower than that of the more extensive dinner menu, but we also felt as if we were not competing with anyone else for the attention of the servers who did a great job. Except for the paella, I thought all of our dishes were terrific and worthy of a return visit. Maybe I'll give the bomba rice another try in the more plebian Paella Valenciana next time...

Went here with the girlfriend. Cool vibe, our waiter, Ali, was fantastic! We had the potato skins and meatballs for tapas, Then ribeye for dinner. All were very good. Potato skins were amazing. People on here complaining about price but seemed very affordable for atmosphere and quality. Good wine list with a lot of options at every price point. No complaints at all.

I had a wonderful time with my friends just getting some sangrias on a Friday night, when I took a look at the menu, the food looked appetizing enough so I told myself I would return eventually. Return I did, but the food disappointed very much! First time, Wes was just amazing at talking to the patrons of the place, he was still great the second time around but the food was not so great. Here is what we ordered: Kale salad- A good salad, overall tasty, there is nothing special about it but I did like the sweet and sour dressing with raisins and cheese. Mussels- These came highly recommended by the waitress and we saw several other tables order it, definitely the best dish of the night. The mussels were quite big in size but the flavor of the sauce wasn't cooked into it, you had to dip it into the sauce. You also received four pieces of bread to dip into the sauce too which made sure the sauce did not go to waste. Beware, they don't tell you extra bread costs $1, but its not a big deal. The chorizo and cheese added into the sauce added extra flavor. Bacon Wrapped Pork Tenderlion with polenta and side salad- The polenta was cooked well and the salad well dressed. However, the star of the dish, the pork tenderloin, was so dry and flavorless. The bacon that wrapped around it was cooked perfectly tender though, don't know how they managed to do that. This dish is $24, so I would suggest to avoid it. Seafood Paella- One of the other most popular items on the menu. The portion is ok for $25, but don't let the picture fool you. The plate is huge but the food is spread out very thinly. There were about a couple pieces of calamari, shrimp, crab, but I felt like it all lacked flavor. I wanted to taste the richness of the different types of seafood but it just wasn't there. Bread Pudding- Best Bread Pudding Ever, I have tried a lot of bread pudding and this one was done exceptionally well. I may come back just for this in the future. Overall, they still make great Sangrias and its happy hour all night! (the food on the happy hour menu did not interest us) The owner will probably not get a full liquor license anytime soon so if you just want to chat over some sangrias and beers, it could be a place to try.

Really impressive service. Bernadette was amazing and made our feast even more delicious. The ambiance is pretty unique and cozy. The food was great: loved the lamb, shrimp paprika, steak and meatballs. The paella was also pretty good. So happy to have found this place. Perfect for romantic dinners.

This is a total hidden gem in Santa Monica. I've walked by it so many times without noticing the place, and finally decided to try it out after getting a blackboard eats coupon. I was surprised when I found out it was right across the street from where I do yoga every other day of the week! Came here with my mom and a few friends, and we had a great time! They have a lot of bigger tables for larger parties, and the food is relatively affordable for tapas, and works well to share. We tried a bunch of different dishes, these were our favorites: - octopus carpaccio - paprika shrimp - croquettas - yellowtail crude The paella valenciana was pretty good also, but I have had better. Great wine selection that paired well with the food. They also have a larger back area you can book for a bigger group, would be a fun place to have a party!

Came here strictly for the $5 tapas. My friend got one of the beers on tap, and she really enjoyed it. You really can't go wrong with paying $5 for a quick bite. We had the fried croquettas and the chili flank steak with pan fried rice--pretty tastey little goodies in your mouth :) The decor is pretty awesome with it's midieval style chairs, huge paella pan, and random antlers. Fun place for happy hour with your hommies!

My family and I were looking for a place to have dinner and drinks with a friend visiting from London and happened to see this place on yelp. After looking at the reviews and menu we decided to make reservations. We've been to Spain before and have really missed the food so we figured might as well see if they can compare. We were not disappointed. We ordered the crispy pig ears, potatoe skins, mussels con chorizo, beef slices with truffle oil, and seafood paella. They also have some really delicious drinks like different sangria and mixed cocktails. Every thing was soooooo good. The dishes came out in a timely manner and not all at once so we could enjoy each one as they came out. The paella takes 30 minutes to make so we put in that order first but it worked out perfectly because once we were done with the tapas then the paella was ready. Really good flavors and awesome drinks. Great staff that are very helpful and accommodating. The atmosphere is welcoming. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Good place for drinks and for a light meal. When my friends stopped in we ordered as few tapas and had a round of beers. Just winding down the night. Just came from the Santa Monica Pier. There were lots of tables when we came so no wait time for my friends and I. My favorite dish was the a seafood paelle. Packed with lots of flavor. Not my favorite tapa place but still pretty good.

Came here for dineLA and their menu was amazing for the price. Mussels in delicious sautéed garlic sauce. Sipped it all up. And the most mouth watering melt in your mouth salmon. Maybe best salmon I have ever had. Sangria was all right. Kind of watered down. Dislike. Came here for graduation dinner as well. Paella was good. The seafood one better than the ink. Tapas were also good but not enough to fill everyone up. Kind of pricey. Also dimly lit couldn't see anything in the restaurant sit down area. Loved the bar area with the high chairs and barrels Gave us congratulatory dessert on the house. Very sweet. So pro: come here on a romantic date or dinner with two people. Con: not for hearty family meal

This place was great! We made a reservation and were seated right away. My sister loves tapas and she enjoyed the mushrooms and cheese very much. The service was great, we got our food quickly and they were accommodating towards my dairy allergy. Very well informed. The happy hour menu was great, although the chili steak was a little over cooked for my taste. The potatoe skins I could eat all night!!

  • Suzie Q.

Suzie Q's Fun Facts: Rice ("arroz" or "arros" in Spanish) is one of the most important food crops in the world, providing more than one fifth of the calories consumed by humans worldwide. ~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~ Here's the thing: My first experience with authentic tapas was in Madrid, Spain. There, tapas are humble, inexpensive bar snacks, not the fare of fancy restaurants. They taste great without any expectations of organic origin or local, sustainable ingredients. So while there's a lot to like about Taberna Arros y Vi - the decor, the location, the friendliness of the staff, and, yes, the food - I felt that the prices weren't quite justified. Don't get me wrong, my companion and I enjoyed our meals. They just didn't reach the rustic sublimity that I was hoping for. Things began quite well. I ordered the honey grapefruit sangria to start, which was sweet and light and refreshing. The cauliflower fritters with harrisa aioli were not bad, though I don't remember them tasting like fritters (which, to me, are like Spanish tempura, nice and crispy and well-battered. These were barely battered at all). The paprika shrimp were good - nice and plump and flavorful. Next, we shared a cheese and charcuterie plate. This is one of the most rustic and simplest snacks you can eat in Spain, but here they charge you $17 for the privilege. The components were all good, but the quantities are so tiny that I wasn't all that impressed. For an entree, my friend and I shared the pork belly with patatas bravas. In Madrid, patatas bravas are crunchy deep-fried potato chunks doused liberally with a piquant, orange-tinted, mayo-based sauce. A cheap but satisfying dish, perfect with a cold beer at a taberna. Here, the patatas tasted more like brunch home fries - not as crunchy or hot as they should have been. The pork belly, too, suffered from not being served quite hot enough (pork fat served cold can make even the sternest stomach feel queasy). For dessert, my friend and I shared the Crustless Honey Cheesecake. The menu description sounded to die for. But when it arrived, it was obvious that the "crustless" aspect came from chilling the batter in a ring mold, then slicing it to serve.... which gave the impression that this was a dessert made in vast quantities without much care or subtlety. It also lacked the creamy, semi-firm consistency that a good cheesecake should have. Instead, the texture was subtly gelatinous and a tad grainy, as though the ingredients had partially separated when cooling. I don't typically leave any quantity of cheesecake on my plate, but in this case, I just couldn't motivate myself to finish it. Other stray observations: - The decor was dark, moody and lovely - very reminiscent of a Spanish taberna - and I recall marveling at the spaciousness of the dining room (rare in crowded Santa Monica). - My friend, who had been seated at the inner bench, was uncomfortable the whole evening. From reading other reviews, it seems that the restaurant's decorator forgot to actually sit on one of the benches before appointing the whole establishment with them. - The decaf coffee I ordered with dessert was one of the best cups of decaf I've ever had. The waitress told me she brewed the pot to order for me, and I could tell. I wanted to guzzle that stuff for another hour, it was so dark and rich and served piping hot. Ultimately, while I enjoyed my meal at this restaurant, I was kind of dismayed at the ultimate bill. That tells me that the prices were slightly out of proportion to the food's flavor, presentation or value.

I came here during DineLA for the dinner that was 25 dollars per person. The interior was way more casual than I was expecting, and we sat at the bar b/c the place was so packed! Bartender dude had a super friendly personality! I ordered the green mussels for appetizer and they were soooo good! There were plenty swimming in a spicy tomato bisque .. And the leftover bisque was scooped up with crunchy bread slices! Highly recommended! My SO got this plate of mushrooms since he doesn't like seafood, and it was so smelly. I let him have my soup leftovers b/c he still looked hungry after his handful of mushrooms and I felt bad for having better food than him. We shared the steak (mandatory when ordering steak), which was about face-size. It was delicious! I thought it was as good as the steak I tried at Ruth Chris's but I don't usually have steak anywhere and they always taste the same (pretty good) to me. I had like 1/3 of it and thought that was filling enough.. it was BIG! Then we had bread puddings for dessert and they were soooo delicious!! My first time having bread pudding! Loved the texture differences.. Ended up very full and satisfied !! Loves DineLA! Would not come back for regular priced food b/c it would be too expensive and it was too loud to be a fancy place.. But my experience was great.

Worst place ever. We made it exactly on our reservation time. Table was not ready at all and had to wait for 30-40 min The tapas was OK. Not amazing. The main entree was horrible. We had the steak, paella, trout, lamb and risotto but they were all just terrible. We had 2 exact same orders of the steak but one steak was obviously using a different kind of meat. Waiter was a bitch, terrible attitude.

Superb service. Lovely ambience. Great tapas and drinks. I tried: - Happy Hour red wine $4 - Happy Hour estrella beer $4 - Shaved brussel sprout salad - Paprika shrimp - Mussels - Chorizo tater tots - Blood sausage toast To be honest, I would give the food 4 stars. Everything tasted fine and I was overall satisfied with my meal, but nothing was particularly outstanding. What made my experience was the excellent service they provided. These guys are welcoming, interactive, and clearly passionate about food. Thank you Wes and Dustin! I will definitely return to try dinner items.

Came here for a Sat brunch with girls. We were the first customers at 12pm. Only one server and the restaurant was playing salsa music which made me wanna dance! Very cool vibe, I bet it would be more fun in the night. Dishes are tapa style, small portion to share. I like my beer sangria, very sweet and bubbly. Pear is great. Pig ear is fried, you no longer taste much of the pig flavor (you don't taste it anyways), texture is interesting. Potato skins are a lot, if you feel not full, just order this one. Very crispy and a little spicy kick. Ceviche, I still prefer the traditional one, not the pretty presentation. Shrimp was spicy, good flavor. Their famous pallea was a good portion, but I still like fully cooked soft rice more! A great place to hang out in Santa Monica. There needs more places like this one!

I had a great experience today here. It was like grace out of the middle of hell. I walked in after driving houurrrs and I had meant to go shop an hour but I wanted something crunchy and salty and parked right in front. I realized it was happy hour. Katrina and Dustin greeted me with smiles (and flowers) and an absolutely positive attitude. EXCELLENT SERVICE. I got one appetizer - the artichokes - which were delicious - and one glass of HH wine - quite palatable - and they were incredibly warm and sweet as if I was ordering a meal for 20! Amusingly, I do run events for a group, however, the bar manager was somewhat dismissive when I asked about events and they do not have a private room so I am not sure if it is the best area for a private event. However, I will definitely meet friends here for drinks, delicious tapas, dinner. Really cute interior. I love the space and it has great potential. from Sept 22-26 they donate 10% to Heal the Bay!!! Go check it out!!! Yummy!

I love this place!! One of the more mellow places to hang out in Santa Monica that's not overbearing and covered with tourists. This has been on my list of places to try. My friend and I stopped by after shopping for restaurant. I know,...this review is a couple months late. =P We tried the happy hour drinks and the dineLA restaurant week meals. The options I chose for this 3 course summer DineLA menu were: kale salad jicama, paprika shrimp, and pan seared pork tenderloin. All of it was delicious!! Lots of flavor. Shrimp is a must when I come back. The pork tenderloin was a large portion and although I was full by all the food, I went ahead and sacrificed and ate the whole thing...because it was so-o flavorful and tender. Great ambience. Staff came to check on us frequently but not overbearing. They offered to charge my phone as it died and I was really bummed that I wouldn't be able to take more pictures of the great food. Happy hour drinks are a great price. Looking at the menu, many things to try still!! Everything looked so good!

The service and ambience was excellent. Had a cool dark medieval European posh dungeon theme going. The food unfortunately left much to be desired. The tapas were pretty good, and we probably should have stayed with that. The Main courses we got were unfortunately not very good. I had the rib eye, which was seasoned oddly and cooked a bit over my requested medium rare. Their paella was, not good. Paella is literally my favorite food, and I am partial to it... But this was not very good. I don't recommend it. The $4 wine during happy hour could be a good bet. But I won't be coming back here for dinner :-/

Awesome spot around the corner from 3rd street promenade. Came for drinks and a couple tapas. Ended up trying the organic mushrooms, oyster dish, and the lamb shank. Could have done without the mushrooms, but the meat was super tender and flavorful. For drinks, I had a glass of cabernet from Paso Robles- blended with my meal perfectly. This was a sweet spot, I'd visit again!

Amazing food and service. The Rack of Lamb was delicious! Perfectly done - soft, flavorful, not too salty, totally satisfied my meat craving with Umami flavor. Our waitress was very friendly, attentive, and smiley. She made us feel very welcome and the eight of us sat there taking the table for a long time. I will definitely recommend this place and come back, probably for the same dish. Lol. Would have finished 2 orders of the same plate.

It's the 2nd most wonderful time of the year.... Yes.. I'm talking about DineLA! Whoever invented this is a genius and I for one, would like to tip my hat off to them and award them with a lifetime supply of kudos! But I digress... We came here last night because it was on Eater LA's 20 best picks for dineLA Winter '14 and seriously looking at the menu.. how can you not? For a mere $25pp you get to choose between an array of quality dishes. Drinks: *Honey Grapefruit Sangria ($8) - with subtle flavors, it was light and refreshing. *Fino Sour ($8) - Playing the world's saddest song on the world's smallest violin is what was going through my head when our server delivered my Fino Sour. It comes in the world's smallest wine glass but packs quite an intense flavor profile! The fino sherry and lemon make the drink pop while the lavender flavor is quite muted. Food: *Kumamoto Oysters - so small yet so divine, the oysters' briny sweetness was not overly complicated by sauce - just a few delicate flower petals. The onion mignonette was actually crunchy, sliced onions that added a slight spicy, tangy oomph.. very different than the traditional mignonette. *Green Lip Mussels - The mildly tangy tomato broth is so addicting! It gave a sweet heat to the plump, juicy mussels. The blue cheese was not as noticeable as we thought it would be so maybe it was just there to add creaminess. Then add chorizo and swoon. *Market Fish (Salmon) - The fish was tender and luscious while the skin was seared to a nice crunch - which I love! Cous cous and arugula salad were seasoned very well and an overall delicious dish. For Dessert since I'm more of a savory kind of girl, I loved that they offered a cheese plate! *Three Cheese Plate - cabra-al-vino (goat in wine), taleggio, pierre Robert and quince paste. They were all deliciously pungent but my favorite was the taleggio (i love soft rind cheeses) as it had this tangy creaminess that I couldn't get enough of! Overall it was a great deal for dineLA and if I am ever in the area, I most definitely will swing by to try some other dishes.

There were some hits and some misses here. The Paella Valencia was very good and a hint of saccorat on the bottom that is hard to achieve. It can quickly turn from caramelized rice to burnt rice. Here it was in-between. Appetizers ranged from really good to meh. Really good was shaved brussell sprout salad and paprika shrimp to the "roasted" mushrooms that were too slimy to be truly roasted and were very over cooked. Drinks were good.

DineLA had me hooked, and I came back for dinner with a friend after the amazing experience. My friend and I got here a little after 6 on a Sunday night, and we got some bites at the happy hour ("HH"), which runs all night before proceeding to dine in. We started off the HH with some croquetas and the fried artichoke. I know it's only $5 a dish and HH but I was a little surprised by the portion sizes. The fried artichoke portions were okay and come with a small side of pickled veggies which compliment the flavor. But we basically got three bite sized croquetas for $5 - this seemed steep, especially because it wasn't like they're made up of extremely expensive ingredients. Then we moved into the main dining area - we didn't really need reservations because there were only a few tables seated. We ordered the shredded Brussels sprouts, the spicy potato skins, and chorizo paella. The Brussels were admittedly not my favorite. I skimmed the menu and didn't quite realize that the veggies were all raw, and apparently the cheese that was listed on the menu was blue cheese. So it ended up being more like a salad than anything I was expecting - maybe next time I'll try the cauliflower fritters. I did love, however, the spicy potato skins. They kind of remind me of the TGIF potato chip potato skins, except gourmet style. They're airy because they're super thin and they are fried with jalapeño, so they've got a slight kick. Dip it in the accompanying yogurt-y mix, and it's amazing. I could eat these all day. The paella was solid! I don't have it enough in LA to compare it to other restaurants, but there was a lot of flavor, and the some of the rice was a bit hard from the way it was cooked, which added some texture. There were a bit too many beans for my taste and perhaps not enough chorizo (it must have been cut into tiny pieces because I couldn't see or taste it), although they were quite generous with the chicken. I'd come back to try the seafood paella! Service: Just as good, fun, and friendly as last time! Bottom line: This place isn't perfect, but I'm definitely a fan!

Thanks to Yelp, decided to check this place out on a date. We had the pig ears, garlic mousse, oysters for tapas; shared the paella and the scallops. The scallops were really nice. Texture of oysters were perfect, nice and smooth. I had never had pig ears before but they were tasty, crispy. Had the burgundy sangria; it was ok - somewhat one note but not bad. Service was excellent. Our server was very attentive. The manager came to check in with us twice to get feedback about our experience. We spent almost 2 hours there and never once felt rushed. Customer service was very good. I would go back again to try some other dishes!

Flavor ok Scallop crudo Yellowtail ceviche- too much olive oil Nice decor, good service. Not sure why there aren't more ppl? Maybe price point? Not enough parking? (They do have valet)....

dineLA is my excuse to splurge on food. After perusing the dineLA website a few times, Taberna Arros Y Vi seemed to be calling my name. For the price and what the menu had to offer for dinner, it was too good to pass up. Taberna Arros Y Vi is on 2nd Street right off of 3rd Street Promenade and just a few steps from the pier. The decor inside makes you feel like you are entering into another world. They've got a really cool vibe, and a good happy hour menu. I ordered the steamed mussels with bleu cheese and chorizo/tomato broth, the pork belly with potatoes and kale salad, and the bread pudding. The portions were generous for what we paid for, AND were so delicious. I kept wanting to drink the soup from the mussels. There are a few pieces of bread on the side to dip into the broth. If you run out (like we did), you can get another order of bread for a buck or two. The pork belly was so fatty and full of flavor. Since the potatoes and kale salad were sitting underneath the pork belly, the fattiness had seeped into everything making it super tasty. By the time the bread pudding came out, I was SO full. However, I always make room for dessert. It was this cinnamon-y sugary goodness topped with ice cream. Mmm mmm mmm. My friends ordered the rabbit pate, mushroom risotto, and grilled salmon. I'm not huge on pate, so didn't have much of that. The mushroom risotto was okay, but a little too salty for me. Now, the grilled salmon. Oh man. I could not get enough of that dish. It was perfectly grilled and flakey, with just the right amount of salt and pepper. I would definitely get that again. Our server was really great, friendly and incredibly informative. I can't wait to go back and try everything on their menu.

i'm a big fan of tapas places but not much experience with the spanish tapas...I saw this place being built in santa monica and looked them up. everything sounded interesting, still dont know why such a long and complicated name..i'm sure if pronounced correctly it would sound cool.. i bookmarked this place since it opened....the dishes looked very innovative....i finally came on a thurs night and prob ordered a few things too much but was able to stuff it down anywayz...they say, 'dont waste ur food right'!!! squid ink pasta - different from what i'm used to..they have squid ink and mix it in the pasta so its almost like a ink sauce...i'm glad i got it to try it, and it was so different than other squid ink pastas (or maybe its a spanish type i'm not accustomed to) but prob not my fav of the night. meat and cheese board - so i dont remember any of them, we asked our server to pick 3 and give us the most popular ones...great idea...good for sharing rabbit rillette - a special of the night - its like a pate, one of my favs !!! Mussels - a must get - let the bread soak into the broth it comes in!!! good flavor Steelhead Carpaccio - in general i'm not a big fan of carpaccio but this is pretty unique. i guess i'm a lil bored of the truffle soy sauced versions of carpaccios and this was a good change. Croquettes - i dont get why i'm so addicted to these!!! peanut butter and jelly sandwiches - its not the name of the dessert but basically what it consist of, but they grill the bread, nice crunch on the outside, and a good dipping sauce for it. a simple and great choice. bread pudding - comes w/ gelato, pretty much a cap to the night!!! in conclusion i'm a big fan of spanish tapas!!!

So excited taberna FINALLY opened! I've been waiting forever to try this place! Every dish we had was amazing. I loved the fish stew (which is less of a stew, and more of rice and seafood with sauce on the bottom). The rice was SO amazingly light and refreshing, from the cilantro. We cleaned all of our plates to the last drop. The tuna crudo had a new & interesting flavor, the smelt was like eating French fries, and the octopus had a great, very tart sauce. My one minor disappointment was that the sangrias were not really authentic sangrias at all. I tried the citrus cherry and grapefruit honey. They both looked and tasted just like cocktails. I was hoping for that rich, deep dark red color with a fruity yet wine-like flavor.

Came here on a Sunday night with a friend of mine because she was craving for some paella. The place was empty and that kind of scared me because it got me thinking what the food was going to be like in a place that's so empty. But it wasn't bad at all. The paella was good and the serving size was was more than enough to share between my friend and myself. The waiter was very funny and cheerful which was nice and I was glad we ended up eating here. Be careful though, they charge you for water here (just kidding!) Haha

Just had lunch here today and I cannot wait to come back for dinner (especially to try their specialty sangrias)! It's located right by 3rd street promenade, next to a huge parking lot on 2nd. The restaurant has dim lighting with a loungy vibe and would be perfect for a casual date night or for a group of friends. The service was great, super friendly and attentive. Now to the food...the best part about tapas is you get to try several different types of dishes. We had the blood sausage (don't let it freak you out....not only was this dish really pretty, it was really tasty!) and the fava bean toast (the combo of cheese and bean spread is great, also a perfect option for any vegetarians). The mussels are a must-try, they are served with chunks of chorizo, blue cheese and toasted bread to dip in the perfectly spicy sauced. It's the type of dish that you'll grab your spoon and tilt the bowl to savor every last drop. The paella was a good portion and a perfect dish to share. Another must-try is the bread pudding, again the portion size is generous. It's served with vanilla ice cream and although I was stuffed, I kept picking to find the bits of chocolate. I'll be coming back for dinner soon. So, glad to have another great addition to the Santa Monica food scene!

Have been back multiple times for happy hour and/or dinner in the last few months. Always a good experience, friendly staff, and I've gotten in the habit of dropping in here for happy hour before going to a movie on the Promenade.

The food here was delicious. We had an assortment of tapas (croquettas, meatballs, and the carpaccio), and they were all amazing. We shared the lamb entree which was perfectly cooked and came with delicious rice and beans. The manager stopped by to say hello and checked in on us which was really thoughtful. The chocolate peanut butter bread pudding was absolutely ridiculously delicious! Would definitely recommend this restaurant as well as return!

like it says... As good as it gets! what a great find for a great price during DineLA 2014. so glad we stumbled upon this spot and took a chance on doing a Tapas place for dinner. mama and i ordered the mussels and mushrooms from the first course. the broth on the mussels was amazing. so rich in flavor composition with all that garlicky goodness and a hint of lemon. the mushrooms were deep and (cliche coming) earthy. mixed wild mushrooms with not too much fiddling around done to it. our server was kind enough to bring more bread after the mussels were gone when he saw me taking the spoon to the broth. :) for the second mama got the market salmon and i got the pork belly. excellent options both. mama's salmon came with a warm arugula and apple salad on a bed of Israeli cous cous. my pork belly came with creamed kale and roasted potatoes. the salmon was cooked perfectly and its' saltiness was complimented by the sweetness from the apple. not much to say about the pork belly other than, damn. i don't even want to admit to eating that much solid pork fat at one sitting, but,it was really good. smoky and sweet. i felt like an ant eating a thick cut slice of bacon. we closed the night with the dessert course of Pot de Creme and bread pudding with a big dollop of caramel vanilla ice cream. i'm so glad i started going paleo after DineLA. PDC was so light and fluffy. on the contrary, the bread pudding was thick and meaty and sweet. soooo good. overall, great experience. very helpful and eclectic staff. amazing location and price points. so glad we tried something different for this particular DineLA.

Went here Saturday for early dinner. The service was excellent. They seated us right away. Ordered the citrus cherry sangria, pig ears, paprika shrimp and the paella Valenciana. The pig ears were the best part of what we ordered; the rest was just alright. I'm used to eating very good Spanish food and my expectations were high. That said, I wouldn't mind coming back though.

Stopped by for happy hour today because we were in the area. It is super cute and has a nice bar area. Pros: Great drinks, friendly staff and truly amazing cheese & charcuterie! Cons: The rest of the tapas were mediocre, including the pickled vegetables, corn and croquettes

On a random night during our vacation (I believe it was a Sunday?) we found ourselves struggling to find an open restaurant for dinner!! We wanted to go to Bar Chloe which is near by but they pick and choose their hours based on how slow they are...so that was a big N-O. So we stumbled upon Taberna Arros Y Vi and boy we are SO HAPPY we did!! All night happy hour? YES PLEASE! and the Tapas? delicious! i loved that they had both food and drink on the happy hour menu - made for great sharing plates and were able to try a little bit of everything! Great- inexpensive night out. The bartender/server- she was amazing! Friendly, attentive and helpful with the menu and our questions. Thumbs up! PS - the decor of this place is great too! loved the rustic, Spanish feel to the place.

Location amenities, ambiance, decor, food and service were great! Location is at 3rd street promenade in Santa Monica so parking was ample, easy to find and great walking area next to the beach. Ambiance is quiet, romantic and can be formal to casual while the decor was cool and incorporating "wood". I love wood work into modern style. Food and drinks were great... didn't like the chorizo much - I should have remembered that any type of chorizo will be oily. Love the Red pepper Sangria best. Service was very friendly, attentive and great. Will definitely come back again. It's one of the first time I bought a Living Social coupon and didn't regret it. Great date night place or catching up with old friends place. We won't bring our kids if you don't bring yours. I love my kids but sometimes they are sooo annoying and other people's kids are even more annoying! We're trying to escape them so leave the brats at home or go to a burger joint. Go out without the kids, you deserve it.

This place is okay. I would not ask to come back and will only if the BF wants to. We came here on Saturday and were seated immediately. Good thing is that there is no wait. To be seated, that is. There was quite a wait after that. I didn't time it but the wait was long enough for us to decide exactly what we wanted (drinks and food- which usually takes a while, I can be indecisive). Yeah, we were getting annoyed as servers kept walking around us but noone stopped to help us. Anyhow, our waiter finally came and we ordered the pork belly, mushrooms, and seafood paella. All were pretty good. The pork belly was a single piece on top of rice which makes sense since it was only $8. If there are more than two people in your party, you need to get several orders. My favorite was the mushrooms with burrata and truffle oil. But it was somewhat pricey at $16 since it's a non-meat and not really that gourmet item. And the seafood paella was pretty good. The mussels (3 total) were nice-sized juicy ones. For dessert, we got the bread pudding which was also pretty good. It wasn't too sweet. All in all, the food was pretty good. I just thought it's kinda pricey for what it was. I didn't think any dish particularly stood out. And the service really turned me off. In addition to the long wait to order, I wanted a second glass of sangria and couldn't get the server until we were almost finished with our meal. (By the way, the sangria is light on alcohol).

Visiting from the New England, not only was the staff super pleasant and helpful with what to order but the drinks, Tapas and desserts were amazing! Fast service with a smile and if I come back to this area I would def come back again! Compared to other restaurants we have come to over the past week it's in my top 2!i would highly recommend this slightly hidden gem

I was absolutely blown away. This is definitely Santa Monica's best kept secret...which I will work to change! All the things you love in a go-to spot: * Great nibblers (that Morcilla thingy is amazing...and I still need to try dinner, which I'm sure will exceed my happiness again. I think the chef came from some fancy restaurants, and won recognition in the industry - but I forget where and what) * Fantastic drinks (Honey Grapefruit Sangria and Apasionado were my faves) * Amazing dessert (I think it was the Petit Pot de Creme that I liked) * EXCEPTIONAL customer service from all the very, very friendly staff (shout out to Wes and Dustin!)...a couple of gals were great, which can apparently karaoke with the best of them My girlfriend and I were treated like royalty (to the point that I was then nicknamed, "her majesty", ha)...and so much that our original plan of, "let's just grab one drink" turned into a 10-hour food and drink fest. Thank you Taberna, for making my Saturday night. I'm directing my regular Santa Monica meetings - both business and social traffic - to you now! See you this weekend, and next week...you've become a local go-to for this westsider now :) (Something random to consider, Yelpers - if you see my profile, you should note that I rarrrrrrrrely take time to write reviews. My read-to-review ratio on Yelp must be about 10,000 to 1. So take extra consideration, that this should say a lot that I took the time to review my newfound friends at Taberna.)

My first review ever, I absolutely love this place!!!!! Two thumbs up! Service here is spectacular. Wes, the general manager here is extremely involved. He knows his stuff and took the time to accommodate me and my group on every level. We will definitely be back. Try the carpaccio and mussels!!

Amazing drinks recommend the honey grapefruit sangria, delicious tapas (chili flank steak with pan friend rice is delicious and only $5) and the customer service is amazing. We came in with a group of 5 and not only was Wes and our waitress Katrina coming in and checking in on us every few minutes but we also had an additional two waiters assist our needs. The customer service here is mind blowing, I've never had such a positive or friendlier experience Definitely making this place our go to for food and drinks!!!! And bonus they have happy hour everyday all night and they have $4 drinks!!! This experience has definitely earned them 5 returning and loyal customers!

From Seattle to visit my daughter and her boyfriend. Wanted to take them out out to a nice dinner but not at super fancy place. Decided on tapas and this restaurant was the no.1 rated place. Location is good because it's next to a parking garage. So enough of logistics. Let's talk food and drinks! Had the potato skins (yum), cauliflower (okay), meatball (yum), paella Valencia (super yum) and the bread pudding (delicious). The sangria and libations selections are great as well as the unique Spanish wines. Bottom line. Highly recommended. U will not be disappointed just don't order the cauliflower (hence the 4 star rating instead of 5)

Went here for the first time tonight with my boyfriend and we loved it! The happy hour specials were amazing and a pleasant surprise on a Saturday evening. We had the crispy pigs ears, the butternut squash, the chili flank steak (happy hour special) and the roasted garlic (happy hour special). Can't wait to come back to try the paella and squid ink pasta!

My husband and I live in the area and decided to try out this new restaurant. The ambiance was really authentic and fun. We started with Beer and Cherry Sangria and the Potato skins. Everything was delicious. We then ordered the vegetable paella and were shocked at the small portion. The cost is $19 and you literally get a 1/2 an inch of food in the dish (or 4 total bites) which equates to $4.75/bite. It was delicious, however, they need to up the portion to match the price. We won't be back unless they make some changes. There are far too many good restaurants in Santa Monica with lower prices to eat at instead.

I have been to this restaurant 3 times. The menu is a bit small for my liking but everything i have ordered has been amazing! The manager of the restaurant recommended we get the mussels and they were beyond amazing. I just have not been unimpressed by a dish and the ambience is very cool. It's a bit overpriced in my opinion but hey that's Santa Monica for you. The happy hour is also a bit weak.... It only includes a few small plates and drinks.

I think this place is pretty great. I have been looking for a good spot that serves good paella - and I'm lucky to have one nearby. The food is all around pretty solid if you like traditional tapas and unique items. Great happy hour as well.

Excellent food, great flavor and selections. The woman waiting tables at lunch on a Sunday was awesome!! She was the only one working but handled the whole restaurant and bar without missing a beat. My only slight negative would be the price but it is downtown SM one block from the beach. I would come back here.

The rice in the paella was grainy. This is not a Spanish style paella--very disappointed. The seats are so low we had to ask for cushions. We will not return.

We celebrated a friends birthday here. The food is really good and a nice variety of different tapas to try. We sampled some meat, vegetable and seafood tapas and even ordered two different kinds of paella. One was meat and the other was seafood. The service is a little slow but the staff is polite and cordial. Nice variety of flavored sangria's and some tasty desserts.

Let me start out with saying that the service here was great. If it were not for the service I would have given it 1 star. The reason why I am giving the a 2 star is because of horrible management. My wife and I wanted to try out a new place to eat and although we saw that this place was a little pricey we decided to try it out. When sitting at the bar, the bartender gave great suggestions for appetizers and drinks. The issue that we had was when we ordered the pork from the "comida" portion of the menu. Not only did we have to wait 20 minutes for the pork to come out, it came out RAW!!!!!! How can you charge people for high quality food when your chefs don't even know how to cook it? When you serve something RAW which has potential to carry parasites causing trichinosis (i just took a microbiology class and this bug ain't purty) I think that JUST the server coming your table and apologizing is a real lack of management customer service. I am highly disappointed in this place and it's management for allowing RAW PORK to be served ad well as management not even showing their face and saying "hey we are sorry can we get you something else?" I will not be recommending this place to anyone.

Fantastic restaurant. I enjoy sitting at the bar, watching La Liga games and going through everything on the happy hour menu, which I believe runs from 3:00 to 7:00. House wines are great, and the servers are top class.

Dined here for a birthday lunch - what a gem. Place is super comfortable with great seating. Indulged in a bunch of their tapas: mussels, sardines, olives, roasted garlic (literally a head of roasted garlic), ceviche, and more. Presentation was excellent, flavors were well-rounded and on point. Especially good were the sangrias: the chardonnay with cherry and the prosecco with grapefruit and honey were both delicious and easy to polish off. I highly recommend the place!

Really great adventurous menu, including fly fish, blood. sausage paella, And fried pigs ears, which turned out to be our favorite. However, the scallop ceviche was no good. Too much vinegar. But we complained and they took it off our bill. Overall, a good dining experience.

  • Alex L.

The cherry sangria, seafood paella, and shaved brussels sprout salad were all very good. Our favorite dish was easily the seafood stew. This stew was fantastic and we will go back to have it again. We also tried the pig ears after reading so many positive reviews. However, neither my wife or I enjoyed them. The texture is fairly chewy and they are very greasy. We were both done after a couple of strips. I didn't find the seasoning or the dipping sauces particularly good.

This place is consistently empty when I walk by. Nevertheless we thought we would try it out one friday. Many empty tables per usual but to my surprise we were told we could only sit at a cramped, dark table in the back corner because the other 8 vacant tables were for upcoming reservations. If you are in the mood for tapas my suggestion is to go around the corner to bar pintxo.

Taberna is a great new Spanish spot in downtown Santa Monica. The $5 "always" happy hour tapas menu at the bar has a great variety and generous portions. We had the roasted garlic, blood sausage, and tiny smelt. Everything came out fast, had great presentation, and tasted delicious. I almost thought I was back in Spain. The staff is friendly and passionate about the food. Definitely recommended and will be back.

Been here twice so far. LOVED it each time. The drinks are super delicious. Practically had a pitcher of the cherry sangria by myself tonight (it was a happy hour special). FYI great happy hour for Santa Monica because its $4! Atmosphere is good for dates but also for group reservations - my friend had her birthday dinner here last week. It's a tapas place so that means trying alot of different things. My favorites are the fish stew, the scallop sashimi, the coquettes, and the beef carpaccio. For some reason, it's really had to stop eating their chips. Had the porterhouse tonight - lots of garlic and cooked perfectly. Staff is friendly and attentive too. I'd recommend this place.

went for the opening night and will definitely go back! service - very professional and courteous, ran like a well oiled machine drinks - the bottle of wine recommended was on delicious (i forgot the name but you can ask the sommelier who is very knowledgeable appetizers - crispy pig ears were good but we preferred the potato skins that were thinly sliced flash fried and fluffy to the taste; octopus taste was light and citrusy but could have been a little more tender main dishes were the best part - squid ink vermicelli was seasoned perfectly and the blood sausage dish was sooooooo tasty and delicious!!! dessert - get the flan!! OMG yum!!! overall a great first night - can't wait to try the paella next time

We ordered seven or eight different tapas, as well as the fish stew. Everything we tried ranged from good to incredibly delicious. The fish stew was best of all, but unfortunately I hadn't left enough room to enjoy much of it. The drinks are a bit weak and expensive, and the service, while friendly, wasn't as well organized as it might have been. The manager was on patrol, however, and he clearly wants to make things right. All things considered, this place is a winner and it probably will get even better.

  • Ryan W.

The food here was decent, but i was a little underwhelmed. the paella we ordered was a laughably small portion. it was served in a medium sized paella pan and barely covered the bottom. a fair bit of it was stuck to the pan and could not be chiseled off, which i wouldn't have minded if the portion was appropriate for the price. once we scooped it out it was literally about 4 bites each for the two of us and there was more meat than there was rice (which inst saying much because there wasn't much meat). That said, it was probably the best tasting thing we ordered that night other than the potato chips. This was their 4th or 5th night after the opening so i assume there are still kinks to be worked out. it also would have been nice to have a server or manager ask us at any point if we were enjoying everything.

I usually work out at the 24 hour fitness next door, so I have seen this spot transform into an interesting looking eatery. Last night I finally had a chance to try it out. The decor is nice, but maybe a tad bit dark. The service for the most part was good, but there was lull about halfway thru. Waitress seemed to disappear as did the beer I ordered. Place didn't look to busy, so I am not sure what had happened. Was charged for the phantom beer but a correction to the bill was handled quickly and without fuss. Food was decent.. not great. The Pork Belly was the highlight. We had two different Paellas, the rice seemed a tad bit overcooked. Definatley have had better. Overall, a decent restaurant, not a great one.

I am still laughing at the reviewer who complained about the paella being mostly rice. Um.... I guess if we have to explain, it's beyond him in the first place. Came by for HH with a girlfriend, and had a great time. Bartender Dustin was the perfect amount of friendly without being all over us, so gf and I got to bond, drink wine, and try some lovely tapas. I adored the fried artichokes, the boquerones (gf tried them but didn't like so got to have them all to myself, bwahaha), the croquetes, and the tuna-stuffed piquillo peppers. Their house-made quick pickled vegetables were a delight, we were thrilled every time they showed up on a plate. And the hh white Rioja hit the spot after a tough day at the office. The bill was ridicuously cheap for great food in a great spot - we're already planning to come back next week, which I suppose is even better than five stars.

Good decor. Tasteful ambiance. We sat at one of the tables in the bar area. A perusal of the happy hour menu showed a nice assortment of tapas for 5 dollars a plate, as well as 4 dollar glasses of red and white wine, pilsner beer and cherry sangria. It was great. Service was top notch. The staff was extremely friendly and the manager had his A game on coming over to see how wet liked everything. 4 plates of food plus dessert plus about 6 or so drinks only set us back 50 bucks before tip. Very well worth it. I'll be back to try the regular menu as it revealed some very tasty looking selections.

Can't say enough about this newer restaurant in Santa Monica. We wanted to take our kids to try Spanish food, and we found this restaurant close to home on Yelp. We had a tremendous meal which was very flavorful and diverse, but what stuck out for this cozy, atmospheric restaurant was the quality of the service and staff. From the minute we walked in we were made to feel exceptionally welcomed. We were greeted by three different wait people, the general manager checked in and, after we highly complemented the wonderful seafood paella, we had one waiter show us the imported rice they use, and then the chef came out to explain how she learned to make it. She welcomed us to take the rice home for our next attempt at paella (which we declined to do). However, we did take an excellent tip for an authentic Spanish import food store that we intend to visit. Tapas can be a little daunting, particularly for six and 12-year-olds, but our family enjoyed the caramelized onion meatballs, cauliflower fritters, the whipped potato croquettes, two orders of paprika shrimp, Brussels sprout salad and the truly exceptional seafood paella (my wife lived in Spain for a while). When someone who writes few yelp reviews has the patience to lay it out for a place, you know that he's been touched by it. This is a restaurant with passion and presence that deserves to be loved.

came here because there was a long wait at the misfit and was so glad we did. great spanish place! I was suprised i hadn't heard about it but then found out it opened just 5 months ago. happy hour all night is unbeatable, with $5 wines and small plates. The burrato and fava bean toast was amazing, as well as the paprika shrimp. the bartender, Dustin, was super friendly and helpful with recommendations. All night happy hour in a cool environment. Try roasted garlic, tuna stuffed paquillo peppers and brandade. The red wine is good. The Sangria is good too.

Just coming back from Asian my GF suggested to go a new spot in my hood in santa monica and being just opened I was reluctant but we had a trip to the bar for the "paella and sangria" happy hour on Tuesday. It was pretty damn good and the quality was above average at a killer price. Beer sangria at $4 and very good wine at $4 and small plates at $5 bucks with choices of the mystery meat paella but upon research it was chicken and bugs bunny rabbit and artichoke which was awesome and the morcilla on banguets, olives, pickles, and the tiny smelt baccarones was ALL very good and my bill came to $52.00 and I was STUFFED!.....and time for a siesta! Tried dinner last nite in the sexy and cozy dining room and we had a bottle of Rioja and some apps - giant ass potato skins at $6.00 and croquettes and tiny smelts again and for entree we ordered some squid ink Fideau and vegetarian paella and it was pretty decent but lacked a little salt but VERY good....dessert was a very nice silky flan. Service was friendly and very knowelgable and it was not too busy but a nice buzz kept us comfy in the denim sofa banquets....very cool! I will definitely be back with a group bcuz it's that kinda place and the neighbor has a true regular patron with me for sure....my escape to Barcelona on the cheap was awesome....thank you And welcome to my hood!

I really enjoyed my first time here. We ordered the potato skins and the heirloom tomato salad to start -- both which were simple but surprisingly flavorful. We also had the vegetable paella, which is served as a single meal but is a generous portion large enough to feed two (with a couple of tapas on the side). The paella was good but lacked salt (and this is a restaurant that doesn't have a salt shaker on the table, which means you'll have to ask for salt if you need it). Cocktails were good but a little weak. Service was great -- an extremely attentive staff.

Came here for lunch with my husband and daughter. Everything we ordered was superb!! We had the Paella Valenciana, the maitake mushroom w/ osso buco marmalade (tapas) and scallop ceviche and a bottle of wine. The price was okay, and considering the ambience, the location and the gourmet presentation of their food, it was a pretty good deal. The interior is very nice... very cool and trendy. I would definitely come back here again! Another reviewer said, "Don't come here expecting authentic Spanish cuisine." Well, we kinda did but our server explained to us that it is and it isn't. The owner is, in fact, Japanese, and so there is some fusion of sorts in their menu. I didn't mind that at all, in fact; Fusion cuisine, I think, is necessary in our neo-global culture. All in all, I decided not to give it 5 stars for two reasons: (a) I didn't like that they didn't serve some kind of starch along with the ceviche--I had to ask for some kind of bread/toast, which they happily gave me anyway; and (b) parking is not easy--oh well, it never is in Santa Monica. Still, I think it's a great find. I wish them the best!!!

I've never left a yelp review for anything. Came here tonight with my fiancé and some of her coworkers. The entire staff is friendly and Katrina is awesome. Wes was incredibly friendly and made sure we were well taken care of the whole time we were here. To our surprise, the chef even came out just to introduce herself and make sure we were satisfied with everything. I think we tried everything on the ALL NIGHT happy hour menu. It was all some of the best food and sangria I've ever had. Never tried chorizo until tonight and what I had here made me a fan. The meatballs might've been the best meatballs I've ever had too. Seriously. Everything we had, food and drinks, were fantastic! Definitely try the Croquetas Dias and the Citrus Cherry Sangria. The staff here genuinely cares about the place and the food and it shows. We'll definitely be back here and I think we found our new happy hour spot after work!

I can sum up this place in two words, those words being "It sucks". I asked for a table for one, which the hostess replied, "You want to sit at the bar". To myself I thought I asked for a table for one, if I wanted to sit at the bar I would have done so. As the hostess led me to the table, she asks whether I would be done by 7:00, to that question I thought you really don't want my money. At that point when I should have walked out, I just told the hostess I would sit at the bar. At that point I was given a menu and asked the bartender whether the cherry citrus sangria was good, to which he replied in a way I didn't care for. After that I just walked out. Do not go there at all if you arrive at 5:00 cause they will want you to leave at 7:00. I would give this place no stars at all, but this is not an option. Walk past this place and go to another restaurant on the street.

We ate here the day after thanksgiving just after it opened for lunch. The service was amazing. The paella was great and it was a great experience. So much so my friend and I vowed to yelp the good things that happen at restaurants like this.

A friend and I sort of stumbled upon this gem while trying to decide where to get brunch, and we had an absolutely stellar experience. They had just opened for lunch and we had the whole place to ourselves, so the service was attentive and spot-on. Every item we ordered was delicious and beautifully prepared. The morcilla crostini-like tapas and the seafood paella were very flavorful and satisfying, and the spanish tortilla rounded out our meal nicely. The dining room was very attractive, but truly the stand-out part of the experience was the friendly service. I'm a big fan and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a less corporate/chain dining experience in downtown Santa Monica.

Taberna is an excellent addition to Westside restaurants. The restaurant has great ambiance and gorgeous decor. The staff and GM are top notch. Very friendly service. Food is delicious! The Seafood Stew was amazing. I'm definitely going back to try more of the menu. I love this place!

Last night we went to the restaurant, 4 of us and they placed us near a table of 16 that were young adults. They never spoke to each other, they screamed. After an hour of this excruciating pitch the manager came around and we said they were ridiculously noisy. He said sorry I can't do anything. All the other tables around us complained too because we spoke to them but still nothing. Normally a manager would offer dessert just to appease us but nothing. So, he has lost about 30 customers and of course we will spread the word. The only good thing were the mussels. The potato skins were some product but not skins and much too salty. We couldn't wait to get out of there.

I decided to take advantage of a Living Social deal to try out this restaurant in Santa Monica. After a few hours of walking around 3rd street I was ready for some tapas. The restaurant is convenient to that area so it was an easy walk. Upon entering, I noticed the bar area to the left had a TV for the happy hour sports enthusiasts. We were seated in the main dining area to the right. The chairs were big and comfortable. My wife had actually been here before but the name wasn't familiar to her since a friend brought her here, but once inside she recognized the place. We were looking forward to mussels, but the bad news was that they were out of them. No matter, we wanted to try some small plates so we ordered the croquettas (fried rice balls), chopped broccoli salad, a beet salad and a fava bean mousse. The beet salad was our favorite of the four. It was a large serving and tasty. The rice balls were good as well. The fava bean dish was sort of like hummus, but lighter - not as much flavor. The broccoli salad was so-so. Not quite what we expected. Probably wouldn't order that again. We ordered an entree, the whole trout. It was explained to us that the head and tail are removed as well as most if not all of the bones. When it arrived, it was basically two fish filets. No worries, easier to eat (and share) right? It came with fingerling potatoes and some other veggies. Good sized portion. I thought it tasted fine, but wife asked for salt & pepper. I guess this restaurant isn't used to patrons asking for salt & pepper because they don't carry the normal S&P apparati, aka shakers. Instead the waitress came from the kitchen with little ramekins of salt and pepper. No matter, I just thought it was interesting. For dessert, we noticed they had flan and we were looking forward to it. It came, but it didn't look like flan, more like panna cotta, a white custardy relative to flan and it was good, but it wasn't flan with its yellow color and crispy torched sugary roof. I love custard so I wasn't going to complain, but I thought it was a little odd. Had to go look at pictures on yelp to confirm I wasn't mistaken about this place having flan and what flan looked like. Wife also had the cherry sangria, which she thoroughly enjoyed. The wait staff was very nice and attentive. In summary, the interior is nice with comfortable seating and the food wasn't bad, but nothing blew me away.

The only good thing about this place is that they have happy hour on a Saturday night till close. The HH menu is very limited. The $4 tempranillo was decent, and I tried the honey grapefruit sangria (not on happy hour--$8) which was quite tasty. The food however was horrible. We ordered the fried artichokes and steak fried rice off of the happy hour menu, and the onion meatballs and "potato skins" off of the regular menu. The friend artichokes were just canned artichoke hearts thrown into a fryer and served with a tasteless, oily sauce. The steak fried rice was actually more oil than rice. The rice was underdone, and the steak was severely overdone--to the point of tasting like cat food. The onion meatballs had no flavor. I don't think these meatballs have ever seen a grain of salt in their lives. And the spicy "potato skins" are not spicy or potato skins at all. They are thin shavings of potato that are deep fried and over salted. Not quite chips because they aren't crispy...just very strange. Lastly, the bar is right by the front door of the restaurant and unfortunately, this door doesn't close on its own. So everyone there for happy hour was freezing their butts' off as wind blew in through the open door. Overall, they have a decent happy hour, but I wouldn't go back there for food. Or maybe ever.

This place initially earned a spot in my happy hour rotation. I am a huge fan of tapas and I do enjoy the food here. I understand from staff, the owner is Innovative Dining Group, the same owners of BOA, Sushi Roku, and Robota Grill. The ambiance is really cool, and you can catch games in the bar. On my first visit our group was warmly welcomed by staff with excellent service. They also have happy hour on Sunday nights with affordable drink options. I will first to speak of the food, which has been consistently good, and highlight some of the menu items I've tried on my four visits: *Spicy Potato Skins (delicious, those not consistent on the spice levels) with two delicious dips to complement the chips. *Maitake mushroom with rib eye marmalade and bleu cheese (one of my favorite dishes here) --It's a very unique dish with so many fabulous flavors and diverse textures. *Fava Bean Toast - a nice flavorful vegetarian option. The fava bean has a similar hummus-like texture. *Happy Hour croquettas - tasty, but for happy hour you only get two or three small croquettas for $5.00. It might be worth your while to get another item. *Happy hour chili flank steak with fried rice- The steak was tender and flavorful. The rice was okay and seemed a little hard, but for the price was happy with the portion of the meat. *Desserts - I'm not a huge flan fan, but really enjoyed the texture and the flavor. The bread pudding with vanilla ice cream is delicious and the bread pudding itself was done perfectly. *Paella- I tried the seafood paella and shared it with the group. It was pretty tasty. It says "for one" but if you are getting a few tapas, it's a great dish to share. *Libations - I did enjoy the $5 wine happy hour prices with a decent tasting red. The beer based sangria is delicious, and not too sweet. But just had one as I couldn't justify getting a second that wasn't very strong for $8. * I hear the "hamberguesa" item is really good, which I have yet to try. Based on my food intake and first visit this place would easily get four stars. However, on subsequent visits, two out of the four servers I've had since weren't friendly or particularly helpful. On our last visit one server visibly looked irritated when we ordered a few tapas and "only" one dessert (she did say only). We were sitting in the bar area during happy hour to just grab a drink and a few tapas... it wasn't like we were sitting in the main dining area. It's too bad that the food and service don't match up. I will be back again, but I am becoming reluctant based on my last few food experiences.

Had a great meal here tonight. Bernadette, our server, was one of the best we have had in a long time - she was attentive without being intrusive and helped us navigate the menu. She was assisted by another woman whose name we never caught, but who treated our party just as well. The food was very-good to excellent. We weren't very hungry, so mostly restricted ourselves to tapas, which meant we couldn't test-drive the paella or the trout. Next time!

The 4 stars are for the rustic decor and slightly romantic atmosphere, the awesome female manager and for the Majorcan fish stew. If you come here, the Majorcan fish stew is the way to go. It has a beautiful presentation and great flavors without being overpowering. All the other dishes that I tried were mediocre. Overall for food, this place is 3 stars due to taste and value. Their HH menu looks pretty good as well. May come back to check that out. Parking stucture offering 90 minutes free on 2nd near Santa Monica blvd.
